News of our Church Family

A Special Invitation…

Tuesday, November 17, 2009 at 7:00 pm will be our first meeting with our new District Superintendent, Rev. Ken Kieffer. This will be our annual Church Conference, to which anyone of our church family is invited to attend. We will try to help Rev. Kieffer get acquainted with our church’s life and ministry. Your voice and presence would help us in that endeavor! Please come!

Cleanliness is Next to Godliness!

Under the guidance of our church trustees, much has been accomplished in the past weeks! Our church was “housecleaned” by loving volunteers like Kate Talbot, Jill Levesque, Lindsay Kiesewetter, and Sadie Debellis. A parking lot drain was cleaned and repaired by Shawn Weeks, Ray McNeil and Ed Milke. Parking lot lights were repaired by Fred Hudon, Ray and Ed. Drainage problems in the upper parking lot were corrected by ‘all of the above,’ Harold Freytag and Allen Rode. And last but not least, the entire church was cleaned and power washed by Shawn Weeks and Pastor Chuck.

Thanks everyone!

Mama Mia!

Our Friday Night Lasagna Dinner in October netted $1505, thanks to everyone’s hard work and dedication. Our next dinner will be on November 20, 5-7 pm, featuring a return of Pastor Chuck’s famous “Country Meatloaf,” with baked potato, mixed vegetable, beverage and heavenly dessert.

Holly Boutique Luncheons

The Crafters and Artists from the Holly Boutique rented our hall once again and ladies from our church provided lunches on Friday and Saturday.
Soups, sandwiches, and desserts all were homemade in the church kitchen under the careful guidance of Carolyn Milke. Pam Cahill volunteered to lead the kitchen workers on Friday and her sister, Sue Levesque led the way for Saturday. A host of other gals helped, including Ann Burk, Muriel Lewis, Linda Shank, Dawn Harris, Kim Zapata, Diane Yekel, Carolyn Horsley, Brenda Ransley, Barbara Naugle, Betty Freytag, Eileen Baedor, Mina Bullock, Jill Fowler, Dot Villano, Deb Parker, Deb Parenti, Brie Parenti, Mary Jones, Deb Woodhall. [Dick Lewis helped, too, and Pastor Chuck and Ed Milke were ‘plumbers on call.’] Between the luncheons and the rental of Case Hall, approximately $850 was realized for our church expenses. Thanks to ALL!

Prayer Shawl Ministry

Persons interested in making prayer shawls used in our ministry to those in need are welcomed to come to the next meeting on Thursday, Nov. 12, 2009, 7:00 pm at the home of Dave and Mina Bullock. For more information call Mina at 651-1873. See the Case Hall bulletin board for thank-you notes from many who have received and been comforted by them.

Neighbors Helping Neighbors
Nov. 7 (9 am – 2pm)

Focus on Canton will again coordinate the “Neighbors Helping Neighbors” Day. Job assignments will be distributed at the Canton Community Baptist Church, Dowd Ave. beginning at 8:30 am. A bag lunch is provided to all workers.

Please consider helping neighbors who are in physical, financial or family need. Tasks such as raking, window washing, weeding, dump runs, simple painting, turning mattresses, changing draperies, etc. are often popular requests. If you know of someone who might need such help, please suggest their name. Please call Carmen Mills @693-2035 to sign up for assistance or to volunteer. Any time you can spend will be greatly appreciated.

Thanksgiving Eve Worship
At Washington Hill
Nov. 25 7:00 pm

The Thanksgiving Eve Worship Service at Washington Hill United Methodist Church will take place on Wednesday, November 25th, at 7:00 pm. Each year community members fill this historic church to the balconies as they observe the Thanksgiving tradition. Bertha Warner will make sure the pot-bellied stove is filled with wood, Roland and Ann Stickney will trim the lanterns and Gladys Knyble and family will give a warm welcome to all who come. Participating in this year’s worship service will be pastors of all three churches that were formed by Washington Hill members: Carl Franson from Pleasant Valley, Bob Sorozan from West Granby and Pastor Chuck representing North Canton and Washington Hill. Pastor Franson will bring the evening’s message. Remember to bring a small flashlight for darker places in the sanctuary and enjoy worshipping in this historic sanctuary.

Canton Community Thanksgiving Service
Nov. 22 4:00 pm at St. Patrick’s

The annual Ecumenical Thanksgiving Service for Canton will be held on Sunday afternoon, November 22 at 4:00 pm at the St. Patrick’s Roman Catholic Church in Collinsville. Choirs from most of our Canton churches will participate in this “Feast of Singing” and combined choirs will offer a beautiful anthem together. (Choir members are asked to arrive by 3:00 pm for rehearsal.) Come and enjoy this wonderful celebration of thanksgiving and song.

LUNCH BUNCH

Lunch Bunch will go to “Dish and Dat” in the Shoppes at Canton on Tues, November 17, 2009. This is the new establishment in the former “Simmer Restaurant” near Ben and Jerry’s Ice Cream Shop. Meet at church at Noon or at restaurant at 12:30 PM. For more information call Pat McGarry at 693-0591.

Greening of the Church
November 29

The first Sunday of Advent is November 29th! We quickly turn our thoughts from turkey and Thanksgiving to the season of Advent and preparing ourselves for Christmas.

The beginning of that preparation is The Greening of the Church, which will be held following worship on Sunday, November 29th. We deck the halls with beautiful greens, decorate our Case Hall Christmas Tree with lovely symbols of Christ made by Trinity members, hang wreaths on our church doors and anticipate one of the loveliest seasons of the church year. After we have done the decorations, we will enjoy a light lunch together lovingly made by our Council on Ministries. Please save the date and help us “Deck the Halls!”
