COPYRIGHT LAWS
By law, as well as by intent, the pre-recorded videocassettes, videodiscs, musical works, including any accompanying words and sound recordings which are available in stores throughout the United States are for home use only. -- unless you have a license to show them, copy them and use them elsewhere.
Video's - Rentals or purchases of home videocassettes do not carry with them licenses for non-home showings. Before you can legally engage in non-home showings, you must have a separate license which specifically authorizes them. Showings of home videocassettes or disc (DVD), other than at home, are illegal unless they have been authorized by license. Even "performances in 'semipublic' places such as clubs, lodges, factories, summer camps, churches, youth groups and schools are 'public performances' and subject to copyright control".
Music - You must obtain permission to:
- Make copies of copyrighted music.
- Print songbooks or songsheets containing copyrighted works and use them in churches, Bible studies, or home prayer groups.
- Make a transparency or slide of a copyrighted work.
- Make a photocopy of a copyrighted work for an accompanist in order to sing a solo, ensemble or cantata.
- Make Videos of worship services or special musical presentations, such as youth, children's, and holiday presentations.
