Community Resources
North Northfield United Methodist Church
North Northfield United Methodist Church is delighted to host several community groups in our facility at the corner of Dundee and Sanders Roads in Northbrook. The groups include TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly), Girl Scout Cadette Troop #2348, Little Ones Nursery School (housed in our separate Education Building), and AA (Alcoholics Anonymous).
TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly)
This group offers a low-cost alternative to other weight-loss programs. They meet downstairs at the church in the fellowship hall every Wednesday at 7:00 p.m., with a weigh-in from 6:15 to 6:45 p.m. Group members offer support and encouragement to each other as they seek to lose weight and become healthier. CADETTE TROOP 2348
Cadette Troop #2348 is a non-denominational, diverse group that meets at the church on Friday afternoons from 4:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. [Thanks to the Troop Leader for the following description]: Troop 2348 is comprised of sixth graders from Northbrook, IL. We are 9 members strong and for the last three years have spent our time completing a variety of service projects, badges, and fun outings. Some of our latest adventures have included Cookie Sales, a festive Valentine's weekend dinner and show put on entirely by the girls for their families, and two open houses for fifth grade scouts. As Junior Girl Scouts the troop completed our Junior Girl Scout Bronze project which was comprised of activities leading up to and including re-marking all of the hiking trails at a local Girl Scout Council property, and we planned and hosted a formal multi-aged bridging ceremony with girls of all ages from the community. Additionally, the girls were included with those participating in the National Dare to Share entrepeneurial program for their outstanding work knowing, promoting, and selling cookies during the 2008 Cookie Sale. As Cadettes we are looking forward to new experiences, new friends, and a variety of activities and service projects that will help us to continue to grow for the future. We are currently looking forward to our Spring Campout in June. If you are interested in hearing more, e-mail the Troop Leader (troopleader@thegirlscoutsite.org) for more information, or attend a meeting or event and see what we are all about. THE LITTLE ONES NURSERY SCHOOL
ALCOHOLICS ANONYMOUS
Meeting time is 7:30 p.m. every Tuesday
Since 1966, Little Ones Nursery School has been serving young children and families in the Northbrook area as a private, nondenominational preschool. Our program encourages young children to learn and flourish in a nurturing, supportive environment while allowing each child to develop at his or her own pace. Little Ones utilizes a standards based curriculum that meets benchmarks in all subject areas of the Illinois State Learning Standards. Through a variety of activities involving free and facilitated play, problem solving and group time, children gain the skills necessary for academic, cognitive, social, physical, and emotional development. Little Ones is accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC), the nation's largest organization of early childhood educators. This national association develops standards that define and recognize high quality preschool programs. For more information, go to the website at: www.littleonesnursery.com
