Warm Hearts at Emmanuel UMC Touches Diverse Groups

Nothing satisfies like hot, homemade soup and good fellowship to warm a cold and icy winter evening. Using funds from a Planned Acts of Christian Kindness (PACK) Grant, some members of Emmanuel United Methodist Church in Polo provided the residents of the nearby Ogle County Housing Unit in Polo a Sunday supper of soup, sandwiches and desserts. Nearly all of the 30 residents participated in the evening meal served in their community room that was a gift to those who received and also to those who prepared and served the meal.

This was the second part of the PACK Grant Emmanuel received in early summer. Members of the church family popped and served over 100 free sacks of pop corn one Friday night each month for the free community summer Movies in the Park program. The corn and equipment were provided by the First State Bank of Shannon-Polo while Emmanuel provided the popping power for an evening of joy.

Both Planned Acts of Christian Kindness were delightful ways to give Emmanuel a loving and positive mission but even more gave the participants a joy of having done the kind acts. Future plans for the church include more of these types of activities.
