Appointment of the Aurora District Superintendent

On Thursday, January 31st Bishop Hee-Soo Jung announced the appointment of Rev. Diana Mason Facemyer as the incoming Aurora District Superintendent effective July 1st. Rev. Facemyer will succeed Rev. Danita Anderson who has served in the position of Aurora District Superintendent for seven years and will move on to a new ministry setting effective July 1st.

In announcing the appointment of Rev. Facemyer, Bishop Jung states that “Diana’s passion for the ministry of the local church and the development of new faith communities, her ability to recruit, train, nurture and support leadership, her skills and experience in cross-racial/cultural ministry settings and her history of working as a team member will enhance the work of Northern Illinois Conference leadership and our vision of Harvest 2020.”

In accepting Bishop Jung’s invitation to become a member of the Cabinet, Rev. Facemyer said
“I want to honor Bishop Jung and the Cabinet for imagining me to be someone who might bring gifts to the leadership team of the Northern Illinois Conference. And I want to thank colleagues and parishioners who have shaped my understanding of ministry over the years, especially the people of St. Thomas, who have shaped me into the best pastor I have ever been.”

Rev. Facemyer was ordained in the New York Annual Conference in 1973 and transferred to the Northern Illinois Conference in 1975. Currently the pastor at St. Thomas United Methodist Church in Glen Ellyn, Diana has served Glenview United Methodist, Dakota - Rock Grove, as an associate at Naperville: Community and lead pastor at Glenview. Diana also served as a member of the Conference Program Staff from 1979 to 1989. For the last 12 years she has taught as adjunct faculty at Garrett Evangelical Theological Seminary in Evanston.

Diana is married to Rev. Daniel Facemyer, a retired Elder in the Northern Illinois Conference.

Rev. Facemyer states that she looks forward to beginning this new phase of ministry
“with gratitude to the Bishop, help from the wonderful clergy and exceptional lay people of the Aurora District, and the tolerance and patience of other cabinet members.”
