Worship at Newtonville

Our central activity as a community of faith is our worship life together. Here we sing pray, nurture each other, and give ourselves to God individually and as a community.

Worship is at 10:00am each Sunday morning, with special services held in special seasons. We worship in a light, upbeat and casual-traditional style, with organ, piano, guitar, guest musicians, and occasional choirs. We celebrate the Sacrament of Holy Communion on the first Sunday of each month. Our sermons are based in scripture and are relevant to today's living, leading us together to seek faith and understanding. We believe in the Wesleyan process of interpreting scripture through our own human reason, experience, and tradition.

We'll try to answer some questions you may have about the worship experience here:

How shall I dress?

We are definitely a 'come as you are' kind of place! Our folks dress all sorts of ways. God is more concerned with you than with your clothing, and so are we.

What can I expect on my first visit?

From the moment you enter, you'll be made to feel at home. As you enter the worship center, our ushers will welcome you, hand you our worship guide and direct you to a seat if you wish. Then, sit back, relax, and enjoy the service! If you have a very young child you and would like to utilize the care of our crib room, our ushers can show you the way.

If you have any questions before or after the service, you may visit our welcome table in the Entry Hall, where you will find information about our church and the United Methodist Church. Feel free to take whatever information you like. You may also feel free to ask questions of anyone. We are all committed to making you feel comfortable, which you will experience most vividly during the coffee hour following worship, featuring great coffee and delicious homemade treats.

What is unique about a worship service?

Whether it is your first time at Newtonville, or you've been attending for years, you are encouraged to seek and be open to an experience with the living God while you are here. From the moment you walk in the door until the moment you leave, we are committed to a creative, compelling, challenging presentation of God's truth, relevant to your life. We use multisensory and multimedia tools to create a multidimensional worship experience.

Will my children stay in worship?

We welcome children to stay in worship! We celebrate the community that we are, and we believe in the old adage that 'it takes a village to raise a child.' However, there are options for them, if you choose. Nursery care is available in the Crib Room. Also, partway through the worship service, there is a Children's Message, and following this time up front, the Children and Youth may leave for Sunday School. If you have any questions about Sunday School, you may either ask an usher or greeter before the service, or accompany your children downstairs to their classroom to meet their teacher, and return to worship as you are comfortable.

What is this Sunday's message?

You'll find that each worship service is designed to meet your needs. Our Pastor is committed to making the gospel story relevant to each of us, whether we are new to the idea of church, or have been members for years.
