Hurricane Katrina

Tommy Rainey is recognized by FCPO, Federation of Christian Peace Officers, for volunteer work helping along Gulf Coast after Katrina.

January of 1999, I was approached and asked if we are ready to start  a UMM chapter at New Salem. I told them our church had just been  destroyed by fire. How could we start new group. They told me that this was a way to pull people together. A way to build fellowships and community.

God has a plan even in tragedy. The men of New Salem were ready to start a UMM. While we still didn't have a church building we new we were blessed.  Our first project was to help roof a Habitat for Humanity House. A seed was planted.

God reveals part of his plan. Within a few weeks of our Habitat project, our Pastor said an organization wanted to meet with the congregation of  New Salem. It was some leaders of NGAUMM. They told us they were there to rebuild New Salem. The miracle God created there after was more than just the building.

Chicken BBQ

Men of New Salem cooking up world famous BBQ chicken.

We meet the first Saturday of each month for fellowship and breakfast about  8:AM. We have a devotion and then do some work around the church or the community. Come join us.
