New Rumley United Methodist Church

HISTORY

We trace our beginnings to the year 1839 with the first meetings being held in

Emanuel Custer's barn.  The following year William Cunningham donated the

plot of ground and a red brick structure was built. The present building was

built on the same ground in 1878.  The first organ was bought in 1879 for

eighty dollars.  The basement was completed in 1950.  The outhouse was

replaced in 1976 with the addition of restrooms.  The sanctuary was

remodeled in 1981.  The addition of a fellowship hall has welcomed a

new millennium.  Our church is here to minister, her steeple points to God,

her windows open to give light and hope to all.  She would be just a building

if it were not for the fifty-nine dedicated pastors who have led the flock and

for those members who continue to worship and serve.
