2008pet1

As we move into 2008, we will renew our mission efforts to provide PETs to those in need. There are two things that can be done at our local level in order to advance this program. First, we need help with the activities required to get the wood parts ready for delivery to the regional assembly and delivery facility. These activities include obtaining the wood, shaping the wood to plan specifications, sanding and applying paint to the individual parts. Second, for those of you who are interested in participating but unable to be actively involved in the part preparation, a donation is always welcome. A gift for this mission will help to offset the cost of the materials (wood, metal, paint) and shipping.

When our PET parts are completed they are delivered to the Regional PET facility that is located in East Jewett NY. There the parts receive their final adjustments and, afterwards are packaged for shipment. In my conversation with Don Muth, the head of the Regional facility, over 100 PETs have been sent to two countries in need of these vehicles. Of those 100 PETs recently shipped, 35 were delivered to Mexico for people who have mobility problems caused by diabetes and another 75 PETs were transported to Sierra Leone for those injured by land mines. Clearly, it is a worthwhile mission to help those in poverty stricken countries that are incapable of walking.
