On Sunday, January 27th, the members and friends of New Market United Methodist Church will be dedicating their "Schoolhouse" building. The event will begin with the 11 a.m. worship service in the Church building and will conclude with the dedication and potluck luncheon in the school house. The United Methodist Church’s Frederick District Superintendent, Rev. Terri Rae Chattin, will be bringing the morning message.
The Schoolhouse once served the New Market community as the school for the community’s African American Children. It has also been used as an antique shop. Over the past year the building has been renovated making it suitable as a large meeting and gathering place. The main space is handicapped accessible. It will be used by the church as Sunday School and meeting space and is also being made available to the entire New Market community for meetings, party’s, and classes.
For more information on the dedication or for information about the use of the building and fee schedule please call the church office. 301 - 865 - 3530
Recently you may have read about the severe need for food to fill the shelves of local charitable organizations. Frederick Community Action Agency's Food Bank is one of those. Each week recently when I've gone in to help hand out food to families in need, I've been impressed with the empty bins and shelves. Each family is given a bag or bags of standard foods; lately those bags have been lacking. The family then may choose from a variety of other miscellaneous items that their specific family can use; those choices were nearly nonexistent last week.
We have a box in front of our church where we regularly collect contributions of food. We usually have three to five
It's that time of year – time to get back into our regular meeting times of United Methodist Women. All women of the church are welcome to be a part of UMW. We have two circles – an Afternoon and Evening Circle.
The Afternoon Circle will meet at Joann Russell's on Tuesday, Sept. 11, at 12:30 p.m. We will meet at the church parking lot at 12:15 p.m. to carpool. Watch for the date and time of the Evening Circle in the bulletin.
UMW is a great way to become acquainted with ladies of the church, do mission study, special projects and we always seem to find time for fun outings and lunch out.
