 Meet the New Pastor Team

On July 1st ,the people of Mt. Carmel UMC, New Market UMC, and Christ UMC Ballenger Creek will   begin to be served by a team of pastors.  The team approach will allow each pastor to focus on their  areas of giftedness, so that the churches can have the best quality leadership.  The team will also eliminate the redundancy of doing everything at three locations, allowing maximum time for pastoral  care, outreach, and leadership development. The pastors have been meeting together for several weeks and have covenanted to working together as a unified team for the glory of God.

 Pastor Jenny

I am Rev. Jennifer Smith and I am honored to be appointed, as of July 2011, to serve as the lead pastor of Mt. Carmel UMC, New Market UMC, and Christ UMC (Ballenger Creek).  I have been blessed to serve the wonderful people of Mt. Carmel for 8 years and to witness a tremendous work of God in the building of our community center, and more so the building of a growing and Spirit filled community of faith. Prior to coming to Mt. Carmel I was the associate pastor of Walkersville UMC for three years.  I have a masters in divinity from Wesley Theological Seminary and have an undergraduate degree in World Religion and Sports Coaching.  Most days I feel the coaching degree is more helpful J  God has blessed me with an incredibly caring and supportive husband and four awesome sons who love the Lord and everything the church has to offer.  When I’m not working you can find me in a swimming pool, cheering on Bears athletics, or chasing waterfalls.

Most of you I have had the honor to serve in some fashion along the journey of faith, but still I wanted to take this opportunity to say how blessed I feel to be serving as one of your pastors.  In this season, as our churches come together to share the Love of Jesus with the neighborhood I am reminded that no church and no person is an island.  Christ calls us his body. Some are arms to hold the babies, others are feet to walk along side teenagers, some are eyes that see the truth, and some are ears to listen when we are lonely.  Each of us as followers of Jesus, and each of our churches, has a special and particular role in the body of Christ.  I give thanks that Christ has called us to share the journey together and I believe that together we will be able to inspire a great revival in the Frederick area. I believe that we will see over 100 people come into relationship with Jesus and his church this year.  Imagine that, 100 souls saved by the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, through us Christ’s body.

I feel my role as “lead pastor” in the body is to be the digestive system.  Glamorous right!  I am called to savor the word of God and digest it into bits of truth which will nourish the body.  I am also called to process carefully the gifts of each in our community and help the body find a healthy way to utilize the energy and giftedness you bring for the glory of God.   My vision is that I may be able to support the pastor team and encourage everyone in the congregations in such a way that every person and every gift is celebrated, cared for, and invited to serve the Lord.

I look forward to getting to know each of you and serving the Lord with you!  In all that we do together may God be glorified and the neighborhood welcomed home!

 Pastor Scott Clawson

Hello to all my friends in the new parish. I am excited to serve alongside familiar friends, renew old acquaintances and begin new friendships with the brothers and sisters in Christ of our communities.

I have been the Lay Leader of Mt Carmel for the past 11 years. During those years I have seen God do great and miraculous things in our midst. I have watched devoted servants grow evermore in their faith, casual believers step into leadership roles, and seekers who have found a place to start or renew their relationship with the risen Lord. In December of last year I answered my call to ministry, the Lord has laid this call on my heart many times, I finally decided to surrender and let the Lord get to work in my life. I am currently pursuing the Local Pastor track within the United Methodist church. I will be enrolling in classes in the fall. I have been recently called to be the assistant part time Pastor of Mt Carmel and to be on the Parish ministry team.

My passion for youth ministry started in my early days leading the New Market/Mt Carmel ‘New Kids on the Rock”, I am looking forward to sheparding the talented and faithful leaders as they encounter all the craziness and loving Grace that God bestows on our young people.  I am also excited about the budding men’s ministry at Mt Carmel and can’t wait to get started in pastoring young and seasoned men of God.

I would like to thank my beautiful wife of 26 years, Donna, for being my rock, my comforter, my encourager and my sounding board. We are the parents of three lovely children, Meghan, her husband Jake (who is currently deployed in Afghanistan), and their son Atticus, (our first grandchild) reside  in Jacksonville, NC. Our youngest Daughter, Hannah is attending her junior year at Robert Morris University in PA, and our oldest, youngest and only son Caleb will be finishing his senior year of high school next year. I am blessed to have a family that loves the Lord and to be able to serve so many who are proclaiming Jesus as Lord. I know God is going to bless us in the coming year, greater things have just begun.

We invite you to come and experience our warm and caring congregation. We would love to be your home town church, come and grow in faith through our Lord Jesus Christ.

At New Market UMC our desire is to not only "make disciples" (Matthew 28:19) but to become the disciples that we have been called to be. We serve Christ in the world and the community as we share His love with all of God's people.

All are welcome to attend worship services. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to call or email the church.
