A Christian is a person who has chosen to follow the teachings of Jesus Christ. A United Methodist believes that all people receive God's unconditional love and by that love are empowered to make the world a better place for this and future generations. A member of Newman United Methodist Church regularly attends worship and is involved in the ministries of this faith community. Members uphold the church through their prayers, presence, gifts, and service.
A disciple of Jesus Christ is one who follows the Way, the Life, and the Light of God as revealed through Jesus. The key question is NOT< "Do you agree?" but "Will you join Me?"
There are many different stories in the Bible where Jesus asks people to follow him. There is no one way that Jesus approaches us. And, once the first disciples began to follow, they still experienced doubts, lapses, denial, betrayal. Despite their failings, Jesus never gave up, but continued to love them, hold them, and say, "Let's pick up the pieces and see what we can make together; follow me!"
If you are considering following Jesus Christ, we encourage you to talk to our pastor or one of our lay leaders to help discern how God is calling you to be a follower of Jesus Christ.
It is a privilege to be a church member, and we heartily welcome all who enter God's house. The pastor is available to answer y our questions about the Christian faith and United Methodism and to provide details about this community of believers.
During the year, orientation classes are offered for individuals wishing to join or learn more about the Methodist Church. New members will then take their vows and be introduced during worship service.
