Howard J. Martin II

Howard James Martin II, a native of Kansas, born in Coffeyville,
educated in the Kansas public school system. He earned an Associate
of Arts degree from Coffeyville Junior College. Pastor Martin completed
his Bachelor of Arts from Wichita State University, in General studies,
with an emphasis in Social Work. In 1999, he served Saint Mark United
Methodist Church as Associated Pastor of Pastoral Care. While at
Saint Mark, Pastor Martin taught Senior High and Senior Adult Sunday
School classes, a men's class, and several bible study classes.
In 2000, Pastor Martin was appointed Senior Pastor of Furley United
Methodist Church. This was a part-time appointment; in 2002, he
was appointed the first full-time pastor in Furley's 100-year history.
Prior to accepting his call into the ministry, Pastor Martin worked
in the area of Social Work. He received an award as most influential
staff at Judge Riddle Boys Ranch. He has worked in the following
areas: Teen boys department manager at a home for runaway and abandon
children; established a program for fathers with child support issues
in the Sedgwick County courthouse. He served as coordinator of social
services and provided training for staff development for a child
care agency. Pastor Martin is a certified domestic court mediator
and a facilitator of Effective Black Parenting. Pastor Martin has
been married for nine years to the former Cynthia Gordon and they
have three children, Nicole, Morgan, and Quinn.
