Surprise Me!

“My thoughts are not your thoughts, nor are your ways My ways,” says the Lord.

Isaiah 55:8

When our family went out for ice cream at a local dairy when I was little, my dad would ask my mother what flavor she would like.  Often she would reply, “Surprise me!”  She was rarely disappointed in his choice for whatever reason – he knew her likes, she loved ice cream, etc.

Do you like surprises?  Would you ever dare say, “Surprise me!” to God?  A lot of us are a little scared to do that.  Yes, we have faith that God is good and that He loves us.  Yet we are afraid we won’t like what He chooses for us.  But it is not about us.  He wants to lavish His love and “surprises” on us.

Throughout the Bible we read that God delights in doing the unexpected.  Sometimes it’s folding back the waters for His people to cross a sea on dry land (Exodus 14:21-22).  Or forgiving their sin (Psalm 130:1-4).  Jesus’ time on earth was filled with amazing events that pointed people to His Father – He turned water into wine, calmed storms, healed the sick and raised the dead.

What kind of God do we serve?  One who is not confined by our finite imagination (Ephesians 3:20).  God’s thoughts are ways not like ours.  He wants to bless us with far more than a special flavor of ice cream.  He delights in His children who trust Him and are willing to say, “Surprise me, Lord!”  And you know what?  He is surprising us and moving in ways we didn’t expect, but praise God – He is who He says He is … As we continue to move in His direction, come, join, learn and be a part of the movement of God in surprising ways … Be blessed so you can be a blessing to others.

                                                                                                                                                                                                              -- Pastor Susan

A Phone Call Away

If you have any pastoral needs, please do not hesitate to call the pastor (354-8306).  Your needs are her needs – go out to lunch, dinner, spend time talking, go shopping, a phone call, a prayer, etc.  Please know that God loves you.

The pastor always strives to be a phone call away, but she needs to know your needs.  Please call and leave a message if no one is home!  Love to all!                                                                         -- Pastor Susan

Hymn Sing Is

On the Calendar

Sunday, July 24, the service will be a hymn sing.  The Worship Committee is looking for suggestions.  Dig deep and see if there is a hymn you haven’t heard for a while.  Please let the church office know your choices.  Thanks!                       -- Julie Mitton

Tools for Dads

For Fathers Day, June 19, you will have the opportunity to honor or memorialize a special boy or man in your life.  By completing the order form available in the bulletins or on the display table, you may indicate the individual(s) that you want to honor.  Your $5.00 donation per honoree will be used by Church World Service (CWS) to provide tools to those in need.  A list of those for whom tools are being purchased will be in a bulletin insert on Fathers Day.  When the order forms become available, the deadline to return them to the church office or the secretary’s mailbox will be June 12.                                                                                          – Pastor Susan

Come One, Come All

After you have filled your stomach on Saturday, June 11, at the NHUMC Egg and Waffle Breakfast, work some of it off as the Trustees have planned a day of work and fun, food and fellowship from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

All day we will work around and inside the church and parsonage.  Come to share in the work and have some fun, too!  Come all day or any part of the day.  Please consider bringing a dish or food to share.  Hot dogs,  hamburgers and drinks will be provided.

There are lots of things everyone can become involved in, so put this day on your calendar and be a living witness to what God is doing as we work for Him.  If you have any questions, please see the trustees.   – Jim Ling

Plans to Honor

Our Graduates

We will be honoring our graduates on Sunday, June 5, with a slide presentation.  If you have someone in your family who is graduating from kindergarten, elementary or middle school, high school, college, or other places of higher learning, please contact the church office with name, school graduation, and future plans, if applicable.

Please get this information to the office by May 29.  Give pictures to Jeff Miller by this date also to include in a slide presentation.

A luncheon will be provided following worship by our Haitian members.  Please plan to attend.

Keep Knitting and Crocheting

Summer is always so busy with vacations, family get-togethers and “outings” of all kinds.  Because these are important, the knitting class will not meet until September.  However, please keep knitting and crocheting!

If you need any help, have any questions, or would like to start, please do not hesitate to contact Jane Frybarger at 717-656-9659.  She is available to set up personal appointments.

Thanks From LUMINA

Sally Wisner Ott sent this thank-you letter after receiving the contribution from the March 9 Ash Wednesday service:

On behalf of the persons served through LUMINA, I would like to express our deep appreciation for your generous contribution from your joint service on Ash Wednesday with the other two United Methodist Churches in New Holland.  As you may know, the amount of the check was $400.19.  We are truly grateful for your support of LUMINA’s mission.

It is our pleasure to serve God in Lancaster city and beyond, and it is through support such as yours that we can continue this ministry.  We were/are so blessed as the faith-based organization which you chose to support this spring.

May God richly bless your outreach efforts, as individuals and as an organization; and may you experience the freshness and power of God’s Holy Spirit in many marvelous ways!

Oval Callout: Hello
Welcome to our church

Volunteers Needed

For the Greeter Ministry

One of the most important ministries at a church is the position of greeters.  When a visitor enters our church, it is the responsibility of the greeters to give a friendly welcome, a smile, and to direct the visitor to the areas they are seeking, such as the sanctuary, elevator, nursery, etc.  This first impression made by the greeters will result in a visitor determining if our church is friendly, welcoming, and if they wish to return to worship with us again.

The greeter schedule is located on the bulletin board at the base of the steps.  We encourage you to take a moment to sign up to be greeter.  You could also call the church office to volunteer or give your name to any member of the Worship Committee.  Please help us to make a good first impression to the folks who walk through our doors.

                                      -- Worship Committee

Bazaar Workshops

We need ideas for easy-to-make Christmas crafts.  Samples can be put by the mailboxes and marked for “bazaar” or give them to Jane Frybarger.  Please put your name on them, and they will be returned to you.

You may also come to the church and help with crafts on the first and third Tuesday of each month.   Thanks for all the help you can give.                                      Jane Frybarger

Cheers and Thanks

<           Thank you to all those of the Methodist congregation who remembered me today.  I’ve received e-mails, phone calls, and cards via “snail mail.”  Thank you.                                 – Anne F. Hall

<           Thank you to all who attended our service on Sunday, May 22, in Fellowship Hall.  A special thank you also to Fred Naval, Norece Richwine, Pat Williams, Shirley Givler, Pastor Susan, and anyone else for their assistance with that service.  God is so good!                                 -- Sandi Rapp

<           A big thank you goes to the anonymous donor that purchased a new computer for the church office.  It has been set up and is appreciated by all who have used it.  It is so much quicker than our previous system and has allowed us to even update software we use each week.  Your kindness and thoughtfulness has been greatly appreciated!  -- Sandi Rapp

<           A sincere thank you to all the church family for the prayers and expressions of concern during and after my back surgery.  Thanks!         -- Dolly Blessing

<           Thanks to all who serve as ushers, greeters, lay readers, nursery workers, and other various positions within our church.  You are very much appreciated!                        -- Pastor Susan

Mother's Day
Is Everyday!

Boundless Love; Overflowing toward you, with no danger of ever running out!

Mama, I heard you calling out to Jesus the    other night.

Your bedroom door wasn’t closed tight.

I sat outside your door in the upstairs hall.

Mama prayed for third-world impoverished nations;

Then she turned to world leaders who are an             abomination.

She took a deep breath and with strong         determination,

Mama, you lifted up the people of this world            faced with devastation.

Earthquakes, tsunamis, tornadoes and much more.

Jesus, you know my mama’s heart and soul   are reaching out

For all these to receive their revelation.

Oh, yes, dear Jesus, Mama continued to pray

Some of our fellow warriors are facing death,

Others’ health isn’t the best,

“By Your stripes heal them, Lord.”

When the fellow warriors reach Heaven’s      door,

They will know they are adored.

In your name, Jesus, she called forth her        legion of angels

To camp round ‘bout my friends and family.

Be their hedge of protection on which I know           we can depend.

For your word says, “I will not leave or         forsake you.”

So, please take my prayers and let me be your           caring child

Who can be a light in my children’s darkest   night

And to teach them properly to “run and not grow weary of doing good works.”

As my dear mama closed her prayers, she      said,

Jesus, let my family know I am with them in           thought and prayer wherever they may go,

Amen, Amen, I’ll chat with you again.”
