Sound AllianceSound Alliance is an "organization of organizations" forming in the Pierce County area. Bethany is one of the United Methodist Churches participating in the beginning phases of this promising group, along with other churches, unions, educational organizations, and other "mediating institutions." Sound Alliance is affiliated with the Industrial Areas Foundation (I.A.F.), a community organizing group founded in the late 1930's by Saul Alinsky. Through building one-to-one relationships among individuals, and teaching leadership skills, Sound Alliance is building an effective means for people to take effective action in rebuilding the fabric of just and joyful community in the region. Training opportunities include the "Leadership Institute" -- a twelve-hour course offered in three to six sessions, several times each year. Participating organizations may also send members to the I.A.F.'s National Training, eight days offered 3 or 4 times annually somewhere in the U.S. |
