Newberry is located in the eastern end of the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, between two of our Great Lakes, Superior to the north and Michigan to the south. Newberry is the County seat of Luce County and is located close to the famous Tahquamenon Falls and the Two Hearted River, made so by Ernest Hemingway.

Luce County encompasses 930 square miles of land. The civil boundary of the County is bounded by 31 miles of Lake Superior shoreline, Chippewa County on the east, Mackinac County on the south, and Alger and Schoolcraft Counties on the west. The largest city in the Upper Peninsula, Marquette, is approximately 105 miles to the west in Marquette County. Sault Ste. Marie is 67 miles to the east, Traverse City is 177 miles to the south and Detroit is 356 miles to the southeast.
