Name Contest
We need a name for our Mission Week. Galloway UMC calls theirs "Mission Fest." Central UMC calls theirs "EPIC," for Every Person Is Called. Senatobia UMC calls theirs "MYHOP," for Methodist Youth Helping Other People. What are your ideas? Think about missions in general, local missions, and any scripture that might go along with that. You don't necessarily have to use all of these elements, but this should get your brains headed in the right direction.
When you come up with an idea, email me and let me know what it is. I'll accept entries until Sunday, Feb. 13. Then the Youth Coordinators and I will get together and choose a winner. We haven't decided on a prize yet, but it will be worth your while. We'll post it on this page as soon as we make that decision.
General Informaion
This will be a local mission event hosted by our church. We will invite other local United Methodist churches as well as some New Albany Distrist UMC's to participate with us. Those of us who live in the New Albany area will stay in our own homes at night, and we will put up the out of town groups in a local hotel.
We will be involved in several ministries during the week. Among them will be Camp Son Shine, Lighthouse Ministries, and Project Homestead. We are continuing to look at other possible ministry opportunities, and will be involved with as many as we possibly can, depending on how many youth participate in the event.
We will work every morning and a couple of hours after lunch, then we'll have some free time before supper, worship, and a fun event each night. We'll finish each evening around 10:30 p.m., so we will have had a full day of mission work, fun, worship, and fellowship.
The cost will probably be around $75 for the week. This will include your food, fun events, , a t-shirt, and all other activities. As work is done on this event, more details will be posted on this page, so check back often!
