The Prelude

Call To Worship h offered in unison.                                                            God, Your people of old experienced Your glory and holiness as clouds and fire guiding them to freedom.  They  believed that no one could see your face and live.  How blessed are we that you have revealed your face to us in Jesus. You also equip us for life’s journey, by breathing new  everlasting life into us, through the gift of the Holy Spirit.  We praise and adore you, O God, for making our lives so special.  May this time of worship and the service of our lives reveal  our thanksgiving and our wonder that you should so care for us. In Jesus' name, we pray.  Amen

*Hymn                    My Faith Looks Up To Thee                    Hymnal page 452

Prayer of Illumination h offered in unison by all.                           Eternal God:  Proclaim your word in the reading of scripture. Speak to us in the meditations of our hearts.  Reveal yourself in the faithfulness of our lives.  Through Jesus Christ we pray.   Amen

Old Testament Lesson            Exodus 33:12–23
People: God, you armed Cyrus and tamed the nations through him. Cyrus was your anointed one though he did not know you

New Testament Lesson         1 Thessalonians 1:1–10
People:
Please do not let the Gospel come to us in word alone. Instead, Holy Spirit, as you did to the Thessalonians, come to us with your power and your conviction.  We want to labor in love and endure in faith and hope.

Psalter               Psalm 99                                                    Hymnal page 819

*Gospel                                  Mathew 22:15-21

People: Did Caesar create the stars and hurl them to the ends of the universe?  Or devise the rules that keep the planets in place?  Could he make blood course through the veins, or craft an otter or a moonflower?
But you, O God, you alone create, in your likeness, all that exists.  Our life, our love, our breath, our world, you give every single thing to us.  We claim it all. Claim us, please. Take us as your own.

*Hymn         Glory Be To The Father                                                  Hymnal page  70
