Instructions for Walkers

CROP WALK Graphic

Registration begins at 1 p.m. Oct. 18, 2009 on Center St. just north of Benton St.

Pledge Envelopes

Ask the recruiter in your church or organization to give you a pledge envelope.  Make sure the recruiter's name and phone number are on the envelope.

As a walker, you are asked to obtain sponsors who will pledge a certain amount for the Walk.  Every donation given is tax deductible. Please place the name and amount on the envelope you use.  Plan to keep the envelope with you until you walk, so you can invite friends, relatives, fellow students, co-workers, and members of your church or organization to sponsor you.  You may ask those who pledge to contribute money when they pledge (that's easier for you) or you may ask your sponsors to contribute after the CROP Walk.

You can use the Walk on the Web option as well.  You seek sponsors through e-mail and the internet.  You will need sign up on a team or if your organization does not have a team, you can start your own team.  Click here to be connected to the Walk on the Web page.  You will see if your congregation has a team on the web.  You can send e-mails to your friends who can then sign up and contribute or pledge through the Church World Service secure web site You can download the Church World Service brochure that explains "Walking on the Web," by clicking on this line.  For more ideas on how to get started, click on this line to see "Tips Fundraising Success"  from the Church World Service web site,

If you are age 18 or younger, you must have a parent or guardian sign in the gray box on the pledge envelope.  (Because this is a requirement of our insurance company, we will cannot allow exceptions to this policy.)

On the day of the Walk,  Registration starts at 1:00 p.m. and the Walk begins at 1:30 p.m.  The Walk begins and ends on Center St. just north of Benton St. (in between Community United Methodist Church, 20 N. Center St. and First Congregational United Church of Christ Church, 25 E. Benton St.)   Bring only the top sheet of your CROPWALKER envelope to your recruiter at the registration table designated for your church or organization.

Bring a can of food or a bag of food staples to the Walk.  A truck from Loaves and Fishes will be ready to receive your contributions before the Walk begins.

Free T-Shirt!!  If you have pledges or donations of $50 or more, you will receive a ticket for a free CROP Walk T-shirt when you register.  Families will receive tickets for T-shirts for all family members only if the total raised is greater than $50 times the number of family members.  If you haven't raised $50, you may chose a T-shirt from a previous CROP Walk.

Wear comfortable shoes and appropriate clothing for the weather.  We will walk rain or shine.  Click on this line for instructions if there is rain or wind in the forecastSponsors should be asked to pay double if you walk in the rain!

Collect Pledges Promptly.  Try to collect all your pledges and turn them in by November 3 to the recruiter in your church or organization. Return your sponsor envelope with checks and cash to your recruiter. The sooner the better!   Even if you haven't collected all your money, please turn in what you have.    If there is no recruiter, please return the money to Phyllis Pepiot at Grace United Methodist Church, 300 E. Gartner Rd., Naperville, (630-355-1748 x 222).

The route begins and ends at Center St. just north of Benton St.  Park at the parking garage just west of the downtown Post Office ( between Benton and Van Buren Streets, just west of Washington St.), the street around Central Park, or the parking garage east of Washington St. between Jefferson St. and Chicago Avenue (which has entrances on both Jefferson St. and Chicago Ave.).  Do not park in the Regency Bank parking lot (at the corner of Franklin and Center).  There is abundant parking in the parking garages.

There is no rest stop on the 5 K routes and 1K routes except at the beginning and ending.

Roller blades and skate boards are not permitted on the route; however, strollers, wheelchairs, and wagons are permitted.

All walkers will receive a gift certificate for a free Turtle Sundae at The Colonial Cafe when you complete your walk. The Naperville Colonial Cafe is located at Gartner and Washington Streets.  The certificate is also valid at Colonial Cafes in West Aurora Plaza, Elgin, Crystal Lake, and three in St. Charles.  When you visit the Colonial Cafe, please share your appreciation for their generousity.

Thank you for walking in the Naperville Area CROP Walk!  Your efforts will help two local food providing agencies and help reduce hunger worldwide.
