Outreach Mission & Ministry
The mission of the United
Methodist Church
is ‘to make disciples of Jesus Christ’. The fundamental way we
fulfill our mission is to reach out to people in the Name of Jesus Christ, to
relate people to God, to nurture and strengthen them in their journey of
discipleship, and to send them into the world.
Mission programs are not an option in the
church; they are the foundation for spreading the Good News of Jesus Christ. By
the authority of the God of justice, mercy, and peace, the risen Jesus sends
the church into the mission partnership with God (St.
Matthew 28: 18-20).
At Memorial United Methodist
Church we take the
Wesleyan tradition of serving others very seriously. We understand
participation in God’s mission as a function, duty, and privilege of all
believers. For this reason we are involved in numerous outreach and mission
projects locally, throughout the USA and around the world.
Our Mission
and Ministry projects include:
Our Local Missions:
- St. Elizabeth’s House, Hartford – a
homeless shelter which houses 71 and feeds an additional 170-200 daily. We
purchase, prepare and serve meals for residents six times each year.
- Covenant to Care, Hartford and New
Britain – We continue our covenant to
‘adopt’ the families of two local social workers and to
provide for those families over and above the limits of the social welfare
program. This outreach especially takes place around the holiday times of
the year.
- Department of Children and
Families Food Pantry, New Britain and Farmington –
Through special events we collect food and deliver it several times
