Mt Vernon Youth Page

Confirmation Class 2008
Four youth were confirmed this Summer, they include Roger Meyers, James Sherman, Aaron Weckhorst & Will Weckhorst. The following contains each young man's Faith Statement:

Roger Meyers:
I attended church occasionally as a child. As a young adult, I started attending church more regularly. I started attending Mt. Vernon this year with Aunt Kathy and Uncle Bob.

I remember playing in Sunday School and making pictures with stickers.

I went to church camp. We slept in tree houses with girls on one side and boys on the other. We had worship around a campfire and caught crayfish in the creek.

There are people in this church who have been good examples to me. Gloria Rayburn is someone who is always friendly and concerned about the well being of others. Uncle Bob is very patient and sets a positive example for me.

The people at Mt. Vernon are friendly and make me feel welcomed. I also enjoy the good food.

I would not change anything about the church.

John Wesley impressed me with how he cared about people and worked hard for them. He also had self-doubts about his own faith, which showed that he was human.

I like United Methodism because it is an open and caring denomination that can design their services to meet the needs of the congregation. They seek to reach out in sharing and hope.

In my understanding of God, God is a caring and loving being. He is always with us. He helps us through hard times.

Jesus is God's Son. He died for our sins. Because of Jesus, we can go to heaven.

My Faith Statement
By
James Sherman

I grew up in the United Methodist church, here at Mt. Vernon and at our church in Buffalo Grove. In Sunday school we would memorize guidelines, which are things such as Bible verses, the Lord's prayer and the Apostles Creed. I was one of the youngest to finish that program, about 3rd grade. Mr.Stone, one of my teachers, would have hands on things for us to do sometimes and I liked that. There were also cool puppet shows at church that told a Bible message. We once made a quarter tube for our Buffalo Grove church like the one here, but it held dollars too.

I believe in God. I believe that God created and controls the universe. He is always watching us and is with us. I also believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God. Jesus came to teach us and then died for our sins so that we could be saved. I plan to continue coming to church to expand on my beliefs.

I enjoy attending the United Methodist church. I like hearing people play musical instruments in church, other than the piano since most churches do that anyway. I like that people are kind and friendly. The food is good as well.

I plan on continuing to be a part of our church. I think we should continue doing mission projects. I hope to do helpful things to show the world that I am a Christian.
