Alternative Spring Break
Thank you very much to everyone who contributed to Imy's Homeless Project for Alternative Spring Break! Thank you also to the students, especially those that joined us on Palm Sunday to share their experiences!

St. Jude Children's Research Hospital
A total of $144 was gathered in the quarter tube. This gift will be matched by Bob & Kathy Biehl and nearly $300 will go to St. Jude from Mt. Vernon!

Crop Walk
Thank you to everyone that supported the 2008 crop walk! Mt. Vernon Church raised over $900 toward this cause! Katie & Gingi Stout have offered to organize the 2009 crop walk for Mt. Vernon - please take a moment to thank them. The 2009 Crop Walk will be held October 4th, 2009 at Lake of the Woods at 1:30pm.

We surpassed our goal of $1500 in the Liberia Well Project! - Praise the Lord! Your hard work will save the lives of children and seniors who are the first to perish during the rainy season due to water born illnesses! The confirmation class presented a check for $3,573.93 to the District Superintendent on Sept. 7th! This was the welcoming event for the new district superintendent In-Sook Hwang. WANTED!!! Closet musicians! Pull out those instruments, dust 'em off!!! We've had a great response so far! Come and join in the fun! You don't have to make all the practices, just what you can. Music for certain instruments is available in the Narthex or you can email Rev. Rachel at rachel.berry@sic.edu and she will mail some to you! If you have a guitar that could be loaned for practice please contact Rev. Rachel.

UMM Meetings: United Methodist Men meet for breakfast the second Sunday morning of the month at 7:30 a.m.
UMW: United Methodist Women meet on the 2nd Thursday of each month.
UMW Evening Circle: United Methodist Women Evening Circle meet the 1st Wednesday of the month.

First Saturday Breakfast Club: Join your Mt. Vernon friends and neighbors around the breakfast table at Urbana Garden Family Restaurant on the FIRST SATURDAY OF EACH MONTH at 8:30 a.m. The food is good, the company "outstanding." It is a great time for fellowship. Put it on your calendar and come when you can. You'll find it a fine way to begin your weekend. EVERYONE IS INVITED.

OUTREACH MINISTRIES:

Cunningham Children's Home! If you ever want to get involved in the good work this United Methodist institution is doing, call Stephanie at 337-9074. She is a delightful person and you'll love working with her!
Thank you to everyone who brought gifts for Cunningham Children's Home!

Helping Hands:
Please remember to bring donations of toilet paper and crackers (collected on the first Sunday of the month).
Toilet paper is the most demanded item as it can not be purchased with food stamps.
These items are collected on the first Sunday of the month in the Church narthex.

Salt & Light: accepts stained and unusable clothing. Must be placed in a plastic bag, tied, and marked for recycling.


Sympathy to:

The Bill Koch family - and thank you to everyone who helped with the lunch after the Memorial Service Sept 12th. Special thanks to Tracy Bailen for coordinating this - it is a wonderful ministry to grieving families.

Please keep the Cameron - Oye - Bailen family in your thoughts and prayes. Judy Cameron suddenly passed and our Church family is in shock.

Let us continue to keep Marion and Joanna Birks in our thoughts and prayers as they adjust to life without Anna.
