October 5th was the Youth Group Kickoff
Cookout. Five Hope youth plus 18 Marshalltown High School students
attended. (MHS students arrived thru an invitation to our two neighbor
teens.) Good food was enjoyed. Thank you to Nancy and Diana for all
their help in the kitchen. Future meetings are set for the 1st and
3rd Sundays of each month, with a light supper at 6:00 p.m. and
activities to follow. Some ideas talked about were community
service, winter lock-in, skiing, basketball at our own new hoop, and
the traditional Romans and Christians.
Know a youth in 7th-12th grade who'd
like to join us? Invite them! ALL ARE WELCOME!! See you on October
19th!!

Hope UMC Youth Mission trip
Thirteen
high school youth and adults from Hope United Methodist Church, 2203
S. 3rd Avenue, recently spent a week in Minneapolis, MN.The group worked for the Urban Immersion Service Retreat which
is in partnership with 25 service agencies through out the
Minneapolis/St. Paul area. The agencies included homeless shelters, meal programs,
clothing, food and furniture distribution centers, battered women's
shelters, transitional housing facilities and summer youth programs. The Hope UMC mission team provided service based on the needs
of the agencies they were assigned to each day. In addition to the
service projects, the group spent each evening reflecting and learning
about the struggles of people in poverty. At the end of the week, the mission team developed a service
plan to help support and serve those in need within the Marshalltown
area because as Christians we must follow Jesus' example of service to
others. If anyone is interested in finding out more information about
the Urban Immersion Service Retreat you are encouraged to contact the
Hope UMC office.
