UNITED METHODIST WOMEN
The organized unit of United Methodist Women shall be a community of women whose PURPOSE is to know God and to experience freedom as whole persons through Jesus Christ; to develop a creative, supportive fellowship; and to expand concepts of mission through participation in the global ministries of the church.
United Methodist Women find God in many ways:
Prayers
Worship
Mission Work
Outreach to Homebound
Reading Bible Stories to Children
Spiritual Growth through Reading Program
Penny & A Prayer
Take Time to Know God!
Meetings are held the first Monday of each month at 7:30 p.m. for planning and carrying out various activities, followed by a program designed for mission education and spiritual growth. Refreshments and fellowship follow. With our prayers, our finances and our actions, the United Methodist Women of Mt. Bethel work in and support the local community as well as global ministries and outreach. Won't you join us?
AFTERSCHOOL PROGRAM
The afterschool program offers part-time care which allows parents to arrange work schedules to spend more time with children. We have created employment opportunites for the youth group from which our staff is selected. We serve Little River School, Mangum School, and children from the community that attend Kestrel Heights Charter Middle School. These are church children and/or siblings in the program. We have Bible lessons presented by the UMW. The afterschool program has developed a working relationship with Little River Community Center's family resource center. We share community childcare needs and concerns with them and vice versa.
Other organizations include, UNITED METHODIST YOUTH FELLOWSHIP AND SCOUTING. For further information about these ministries, contact the church office.
The Committee for Children's Ministries embraces a philosophy designed to promote involvement by the children of the church in the spiritual lives of the congregation and, conversely, involvement by the congregation in the spiritual development of the children. Children's activities are planned and implemented to foster the church "family," allowing the church's children to build friendships among their peers that might last a lifetime and to experience the love and guidance of the adult members of the church community.
Ongoing children's programs include:
Children's Church (age appropriate bible lessons and activities for 4 to 7 year olds, conducted concurrently with the 11 o'clock worship service).
Acolyte training for third through sixth graders
Children's Choir for children under age 12
Vacation Bible School
Special Children's Activities and Events include:
Easter program
Christmas Pageant
Children's Sunday Worship
Annual Parent/Child Luncheon
Easter egg Hunt
Valentine's Day socials.
Plans for future activities include scripture competition and age-appropriate outreach missions.
Meals On Wheels
Durham County Mission Society
Pennies for Missions
Operation Christmas Child
