A Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols

The annual Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols, presented by the choirs of Mount Vernon, has become one of the area's most popular services of the Christmas season. Patterned after the service that has been a tradition at King's College, Cambridge since 1918, the festival this year included music for choirs, organ, handbells, and flute.
Renaissance Music Academy Members

Danville was fortunate to welcome again the talented youth of the Renaissance Music Academy, who dazzled members of the Wednesday Club last year. The concert featured a selection of Academy students playing in a variety of ensembles.
David Asbury, Guitar,
and Bruce Cain, Baritone

Dr. Asbury serves on the faculty of Southwestern University and has appeared on concert stages in Europe, Canada, and throughout the United States. Dr. Cain, also a professor at Southwestern University, has performed roles in opera companies such as the Lyric Opera of Chicago, and recent concert performances include Britten's War Requiem with the Wheaton Symphony and Handel's Messiah with the Austin Symphony. The program celebrated the rich traditions of English and American song writing, as well as new music.
Mount Vernon Choral Service

The Aldersgate choir, along with the Aldersgate handbell ringers, present an all-music service once each year during the regular 11 a.m. worship hour. This year, the choir was accompanied by the Piedmont String Quartet, and the featured work was Antonio Vivaldi’s Credo. Other works included Henry Purcell’s Nunc dimittis, Johann Pachelbel’s On God and Not On Human Trust , Gloria by Franz Joseph Haydn, and O Come, Let Us Sing Unto The Lord by David Piccolo.
