Special services ... events ... announcements ... classes ... etc. ...

Children's House: Children's House, Mount Vernon's preschool, has classes for children from ages 9 months through 4 years. Director Bonnie Williams says, "Call, or stop by and visit, if you are interested. We have a wonderful staff and curriculum, and the best children this side of heaven!"

During the regular school year (September-May), the
Crib-Toddler Class meets on Thursdays,
the Twos Class meets on Tuesdays and Thursdays,
and the Threes and Fours Class meets Monday through Thursday. Call Bonnie, (434) 793-3713, with any questions, to pick up an application, or to put children on the wait list.
A new two-day-a-week program of summer fun is being tried out this summer, during June and July.
Triangle Fellowship, Mount Vernon's Supper Club:
Here's how the supper club works: each quarter, after people have signed up, there's a drawing to form random groups of six participants for the next three months. Each group meets for supper once a month, at a different member's home each time. The two people who are hosting each month have the option of inviting two additional people - perhaps prospective church members, neighbors, or a church member that the hosts don't know very well.
New groups are formed every three months! Please call Gayle Morris at 836-9439 for more information.
Knitting group: Mount Vernon's Knit & Stitch group meets twice a month, on first and fourth Thursdays, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., usually in the Hamlin-Buchanan Room (next to the church office).
Since this group started meeting in 2004, the members have made and donated more than 75 sweaters and caps, as well as Katrina squares, helmet liners for servicemen, and lap throws for special friends at Mount Vernon. In December 2008, for example, they made and donated 22 sweaters and matching caps in various children's sizes to the Salvation Army in Danville.
They enjoy sharing food and fun as well as knitting know-how. You don't have to be an accomplished knitter to join them. In fact, if you've never done any knitting but would like to learn, come and someone will teach you. Bring a lunch.
Please call Nancy Evans, Pat Giles, or the church office, (434) 793-6824, for more information.
Be a lay reader: If you would like to be a lay reader of the Sunday Scriptures, for either the 8:30 or the 11:00 a.m. service of worship, please call the church office, (434) 793-6824, or leave a note on the office desk. We'd like to have more readers for both services!
