Living out the Love of God made plain by JesusKristin Sachen starts as new pastor on July 1, 2007
Bishop Beverly J. Shamana has appointed Kristin L. Sachen to serve Mt. Tam UMC as its Pastor, officially starting July 1, 2007. She was born in Del Rey, California in the San Joaquin Valley, a fifth generation Californian. She was raised in San Mateo and received her college education from the College of San Mateo and San Jose State University, with a BA in Psychology and a minor in Religious Studies. Kristin married George Sachen in 1976. He was a teacher in the Aeronautics Department of the College of San Mateo. With his support, she attended seminary at the Pacific School of Religion in Berkeley (MDiv) and was ordained a deacon in 1983. After her ordination, George was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and died in 1985. She has served in the parish ministry as an Associate Pastor at the Burlingame UMC and as Pastor at Wesley UMC in Palo Alto and at First UMC in Fremont. In 1999, Kristin was invited to apply for the position of international disaster response executive for UMCOR in New York, which she received. She has served the church in this capacity and as the director of UMCOR program operations for seven years. A "very brief" description of her work with UMCOR would be 9/11, tsunami, Katrina. Kristin describes her interests and non-work activities as including "reading, current events, theater/film, watching green things grow (preferably not in the fridge), day hiking and travel." She lives with a "whiskery friend," a calico cat named "Shasta." |
