Application Information

The following information is being provided to help you discern your calling to participate in one of our weekend events. 

Read through this information and the two page application... and then pray. 

If, after reading this and praying about it, you have any reservations or concerns you may:

 

• discuss this with your pastor

• discuss this with someone who has attended a Mountain Top Walk to Emmaus®

• submit a completed application via snail mail to Registrar, Mountain Top Emmaus® (address is on application next pages).
  

• or decide not to participate in a Mountain Top Walk to Emmaus® at this time.

The purpose of the Mountain Top Walk to Emmaus® is to revitalize local churches and serve local communities by building individual Christian character and leadership. 

Participants are expected to be active members of a Christian church in a leadership role.

Participants are expected to have the knowledge and full support of their pastor when they make application to participate in a Mountain Top Walk to Emmaus®. 

The Mountain Top Walk to Emmaus® is not an evangelistic outreach to marginal or non-Christians. 

Individuals who are experiencing marital problems or clinical depression; or have recently experienced a divorce, separation, death in the family or severe illness are not advised to participate in the Mountain Top Walk to Emmaus® at this time. 

Participants are to be adults and should be at least 25 years of age. High school and college aged individuals should attend Chrysalis® or Journeys®. Applicants will not be denied participation on the basis of gender, race, age, Christian denomination or personal handicap. 

Participants will need a personal Sponsor to guide them through the pre-Walk and post-Walk phases of the Mountain Top Walk to Emmaus®. 

One's experience during the Walk to Emmaus® weekend is facilitated and enhanced by the personal Sponsor. A Sponsor is expected to be an individual who has attended a Mountain Top Walk to Emmaus® (or who has attended another Emmaus Community Walk) and is familiar with and willing to accept all the following pre-Walk, during-Walk and post-Walk Sponsor responsibilities for you:

Sponsors issue the invitation to an individual already active in a Christian leadership role.
Sponsors explain the Walk to Emmaus® to the individual and spouse (if married).
Sponsors explain Follow-up, Reunion Group, and Gatherings to the individual.
Sponsors should guide the individual through the Mountain Top Emmaus website. (The
website has been designed to be a tool to help sponsors explain Emmaus.)
Sponsors communicate with the individual's Pastor about the Walk to Emmaus®.
Sponsors privately complete the confidential Sponsor sheet (Page 2) of the Application.
Sponsors mail the completed Application to the Registrar with the registration fee.
Sponsors pay the non-refundable registration fee for the individual as an agape.
Sponsors communicate with the Registrar regarding financial assistance needs.
Sponsors are available to address doubts or correct misunderstandings before a Walk.
Sponsors sign up for the 72-hour prayer vigil.
Sponsors have their Reunion Group prepare table agape.
Sponsors notify the Registrar immediately in case of a cancellation or postponement.
Sponsors bring the individual to the Send-off and attend the service that follows.
Sponsors are available to assist the individual's family needs throughout the weekend.
Sponsors serve the team crews as needed throughout the weekend.
Sponsors pray for the individual in prayer services and the prayer vigil.
Sponsors bring snack food, drinks, gifts, notes or letters for the individual.
Sponsors attend Candlelight.
Sponsors attend Closing and arrange to take the individual home after the weekend.
Sponsors bring the individual to the Follow-up after the weekend.
Sponsors introduce the individual to their Reunion Group after their weekend.
Sponsors assist the individual in finding and joining a Reunion Group.
Sponsors guide the individual through the process when they sponsor someone.

The weekend event begins at 7:00pm Thursday and is concluded before 7:00pm Sunday. 

Participants will not be available to handle their routine domestic and business matters during a Walk and need to make arrangements with that understanding.  Participants should not bring cellphones, notebook computers or valuable watches or jewelry. Participants are advised to wear comfortable, casual clothes and shoes throughout the Walk.

Individuals taking prescription medications or who are on doctor prescribed diets can be accommodated. Please alert us of your individual medical needs on your application. 

The facilities are handicapped accessible.

The cost for the Walk is $120.00 per person which also covers all meals, lodging and materials used.

The application must be accompanied by a non-refundable $30.00 registration fee; the balance of $90.00 is to be paid by Thursday night of the Walk. 

No individual will be denied the opportunity to participate in a Mountain Top Walk to Emmaus® due to a lack of funds. If funds are a problem, the Sponsor must let the Registrar know at the time of the application.

Your sponsor is to mail your completed application and fee to: "REGISTRAR: 87 Pendleton Dr.,Sylva, NC 28779". 

Most Mountain Top Walks have a "stand by" list. Please notify the Registrar immediately in the event of a cancellation so that the vacancy may be filled.
