NATIONAL
OBSERVANCE TO SUPPORT WOMEN HERE AND ABROAD
More than 135 years ago, women in Boston decided
that they
could give two cents and a prayer for work with women, children,
and youth. That small amount grew into millions of dollars and
programs and projects in the United States and abroad that sup-
port women and children.
In Snow Shoe, women are still working with the
same goal in mind.
They want to support women and children here and globally who
are less fortunate, oppressed, abused, or have few opportunities.
The Women's Division represents United Methodist
Women, a
one-million member organization whose purpose is to foster
spiritual growth, develop leaders, and advocate for justice. Members
raise more than $20 million a year for programs and projects
related to women, children, and youth in the United States and in
more than 100 countries around the world. A Call to Prayer and
Self-Denial is one way the local women raise this money.
