Montrose United Methodist Church was chartered in
1841, and the present building was dedicated in 1875.
During our first century of service to the
community of Montrose, regular opportunities for worship and study
were provided. Groups for men, women, and youth were formed for
special ministries. The congregation was seen as one of the town's
leading institutions.
We continue in the tradition of spiritual growth
through our Sunday Service and Sunday School for all ages.
DISCIPLE Bible Study Groups are held, as well as short-term
experiences of life-enrichment.
Small groups for sharing and friendship are available. The
congregation also hosts Red Cross Blood Drives, Scouting
events, and other civic involvements.
The church family provides a space for adults and
children to grow. We offer a chapel for meditation and activities to
create closer friends. Many stop at the Church Office or Pastor's
Study each morning for conversation and prayer.
We participate in community projects such as
CROP walk for hunger and the ecumenical Ministry of Christian
Service, which provides Christmas and Easter gifts plus year-round
help for transients. Our Christmas Department Store allows quality
shopping at affordable prices for all. Work teams have mobilized to
relieve areas stricken by storms.
Yearly emphasis support United Methodist work in Zimbabwe
and Haiti. We regularly create and send "ugly-quilts" to
street--people, and layettes to new mothers at New York Methodist
Hospital.
