Our Community
Candler is a small town just west of Asheville, in the mountains of western North Carolina. The Candler community is a diverse place with many programs that reach out to help others and foster the continued growth and development of individuals of all ages. Montmorenci is proud to do all we can to promote these organizations and programs that improve the lives of those around us.
Girl Scouts
Girl Scouting builds girls of courage, confidence and character, who make the world a better place. Girl Scout troops from the WNC Pisgah council meet weekly at Montmorenci and many other churches and locations in the Candler Community. Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts
Courage, character, honesty, respect, and leadership are a few of the timeless values that Scouting has been teaching young people for almost 100 years. The Scouting experience prepares young people to meet various challenges, not only in times of crisis, but in everyday life. Several Cub and Boy Scout troops meet at Montmorenci through the week as well as in the surrounding area. Eagle Scout projects created both the Nature Trail at Montmorenci and the Handicapped Access Ramp behind the church. For more information about local Boy Scouts visit

Mountain Area Child and Family Center
The West location of MACFC is on the lower floor of Montmorenci United Methodist Church. The Mountain Area Child and Family Center, a 5 Star Center, is a model learning environment where young children thrive, families flourish, and early childhood professionals excel. MACFC is the Early Head Start provider for all Buncombe County schools excluding Emma and Johnston. This national program is designed to serve low-income children ages 0-3 and pregnant mothers.
They maintain a blended program, "all children, no matter what their economic circumstance, deserve the early care and educational experience found at MACFC. We also believe appreciation for others and learning is enhanced when we work and play with those who are both like us and different in some ways. Our program includes children of different ability levels and gender, as well as those of diverse cultural, racial, and socio-economic backgrounds. This commitment to blending forms a foundational piece of our philosophy.
