                                  PRELIMINARY MASTER PLAN

                                                     HANDICAP ACCESSIBILITY

 

Goals

•           Front door accessibility to the sanctuary level for motorized wheel chairs (MWC)

•           Accessibility to all levels of the church facility for MWC

•           Sufficient parking on near level grade at the closest practical proximity to the main handicap entrance to accommodate loading/unloading of MWC

 

Options

(1)        Redesign main entrance to provide grade level access and elevator to all levels

(2)        Redesign main entrance to provide grade level access and relocate and/or widen stairways to all levels to accommodate lift platforms for MWC

(3)        Exterior ramp to main entrance and elevator to all levels

(4)        Exterior ramp to main entrance and relocate and/or widen stairways to all levels to accommodate lift platforms for MWC

 

 

                                            BUILDING EXTERIOR AND GROUNDS

 

Parking

•           Reconfigure spaces and re-grade to provide near level handicap spaces at the closest practical proximity to the main handicap entrance

•           Remove oak tree from parking area at end of playground and level area

•           Correct storm water runoff issues from parking area into playground

•           Pave and stripe gravel area and re-pave and stripe all currently paved areas including driveway

 

Leaks

•           Permanently fix all water infiltration issues particularly those coming from the bell tower, window wells, foundation cracks, gutter down spouts

 

Tower

•           Clean, paint, and resolve water infiltration issues

•           Replace and/or relocate tower lighting with fixtures that are longer lasting and more easily accessed

Paint

•           Clad all soffits, facia, and exterior ceilings with vinyl or aluminum

•           Paint all windows, doors, and other exterior wooden surfaces

 


Landscaping

•           Develop a low-maintenance landscaping plan

•           Upgrade fencing for rear playground area (day care funded)

 

 

                                                                  SANCTUARY

Goals

•           To improve the versatility of the chancel area to accommodate a greater variety of worship formats

•           To improve the effectiveness and efficiency of audio-visual systems as worship aids

•           To accommodate MWC in the seating plan and chancel area

 

Floor Plan

•           Extend the chancel area forward to accommodate larger musical groups, skits, and  special services such as baptism and confirmation (this may require the removal of as much as the first three rows of pews)

•           Remove the choir pews on the left side of the chancel to create an area for the grand piano and other musicians and instruments

•           Reconfigure choir area to create forward-facing seating

 

Handicap Access and Seating

•           Shorten at least two pews to allow floor space for MWC

•           Portable ramp for access to chancel area for MWC

 

Audio-Visual System

•           Ceiling or wall mounted retractable projection screens or flat panel monitors for congregation and choir

•           Control booth in the rear of the sanctuary (possibly opening from second floor) for all AV equipment

 

 

                                                     ADMINISTRATIVE OFFICES

 

Goals

•           Provide main entrance access to the Church Secretary’s Office

•           Provide dedicated office space to church staff including Children & Youth Coordinator and summer intern

 

Options

•           Relocate secretary’s office to Ladies Parlor and possibly convert the Gudger Cabe classroom to a parlor


                                                          FAMILY LIFE CENTER

 

Improve Acoustics

•           Install sound deadening acoustical panels on walls

•           Dedicated sound system with protected speakers

 

Kitchen

•           New stoves or one large commercial grade range and oven with vented hood

•           New sink faucet with removable spray head, ice maker, garbage disposal

 

General           

•           Replace broken floor tiles

•           Install privacy walls for urinals in men’s restrooms

•           Folding round tables on rollers (if adequate storage can be arranged)

•           Re-grade and install exterior door into classroom next to equipment room in day care wing so it can be added to leased space

•           Construct storage rooms on levels one and two of the exterior stairwell at the south end of the Family Life Center

 

 

                                       EDUCATION BUILDING AND SOCIAL HALL

 

HVAC

•           New heating and air conditioning system

•           New energy efficient windows

 

Floor Covering

•           New carpet (especially on third floor)

•           See attached floor plans with comments

•           A second option is to retain the kitchen and a dining/meeting area on the north side of the social hall and construct only three classrooms along the south side

Cemetery Committee

•           Level sunken graves and reset unstable head stones

•           Supplement the Cemetery Endowment Fund so that yearly interest will fully cover mowing costs

Sewer

•           Connect to Metropolitan Sewerage District line when available

 

Out Building

•           Construct building with restrooms and dedicated storage at southeast end of parking lot for use as Youth classroom and Scout meeting hall
