PURPOSE
The Florence Wendorf Memorial Scholarship Fund exists for the purpose of
furthering
the education of members and friends of Grace UMC who aspire to higher
learning.
An annual scholarship is awarded by the Scholarship Committee based
on the application information and general instructions indicated below.
GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS FOR CANDIDATES
Candidate must have:
- An affiliation with Grace UMC.
- Transcripts from high school or other institutions of higher education.
- Two brief letters of recommendation from:
- A teacher or employer
- An adult of choice (non-relative) who knows the candidate well. (It is
recommended that letters address matters such as responsibility,
reliability, and the practice of Christian faith in daily life.)
- A brief essay no longer than one double-spaced typewritten page which
answers the following questions:
- What is your understanding of the Christian faith and how does it affect
yout life?
- What is the nature of your participation in the activity and ministry of
the church you are currently attending?
- What are your current career objectives including plans for enrollment in
an accredited college, vocational school, university, etc.?
- Completed application must be submitted no later than March 31st.
GENERAL GUIDELINES
- The Florence Wendorf Memorial Scholarship is awarded by Grace United
Methodist Church to college/university-bound high school seniors and others
seeking vocational or graduate-level training.
- Candidates will be judged according to the following standards:
- Understanding of Christian faith and church involvement: 50%
- Transcripts, letters of recommendation, extracurricular community
involvement, financial need: 50%
- Scholarship is a one-time award.
- Maximum $500.00 will be awarded per candidate.
- The Scholarship Committee reserves the right to NOT award any
scholarships in any given year.
- The Scholarship Committee reserves the right to change or amend these
guidelines following an annual review.
