She came to Columbus from the General Board of Discipleship where she was Director of Congregational Development with a specialization in Revitalization and Racial Ethnic Faith Communities. She served there for approximately one and a half years assisting conferences, districts, Bishops and their cabinets, conference agencies and leaders in developing plans for church growth and redevelopment.

She has successfully led two congregations in relocations and two churches in renovations. Her ministry successfully revitalized these two Charges with new life, new vision and new ministries.

EDUCATION:

Dr. Croom received the Doctor of Ministry Degree from Drew Theological Seminary.  She is an ordained elder in the Western North Carolina Annual Conference and has served as a pastor for 11 years. During that time she gained the reputation of motivator, visionary and church builder.

She is a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.

Dr. Croom has also served the community through involvement in numerous civic organizations including NAACP, Circle K, Girl Scouts, Ministerial Alliances, Association of the Mentally Retarded, and battered woman’s shelters.

In 1989 she led the Rutherford County NAACP against the Rutherford County school board, who changed its long-standing policy of appointing assistant coaches to the head coaches upon the departure of the head coach. Assistant coach, Hines, African-American, was not given the same opportunity. Dr. Croom successfully argued historical succession and since the school board could not justify its decision to give someone else from another city the appointment, it was rescinded and coach Hines became the first African-American head basketball coach in the history of that County.
