BULLETIN NOTES – DECEMBER 31, 2000

 

RESOLUTIONS PASSED AT CHARGE CONFERENCE 2000:

 

  1. Should it become necessary to buy, sell, lease, or mortgage any real property owned by M.L. Harris United Methodist Church, at the direction of the Charge Conference along with written permission of the pastor, District of Superintendent, and District Board of Church Location and Building, be it resolved that any two officers of the Board of Trustees executed on behalf of the Local Church any written instruments in accordance with the disciplinary law of The Book of Discipline.

           

  1. In accordance with the provision of disciplinary rule of The Book of Discipline, be it resolved to establish and duly elect a Parsonage Committee to be responsible for the property at 341 Henson Avenue.

 

3.      After evaluation conferences with church officers and hearing the concerns of parishioners, be it resolved by adoption of this Charge Conference the following missional emphasis for 2001 – 2003:

a.       Evangelism –

                                                               i.      Emphasis on children and youth ministries, programs, and outreach

                                                             ii.      Establish a Youth Advisory Council made up of adults, parents and youth

                                                            iii.      20% increase in total membership

 

b.      Stewardship –

                                                               i.      Every member a tither

                                                             ii.      Every member involved in a ministry

                                                            iii.      Every member involved  “personal” growth through daily prayer, Bible Study, etc.

                                                           iv.      Every member committed to their membership vows made to the church

                                                             v.      Evangelism and stewardship be the focus of the educational ministry of the church through Sunday School, Bible Studies, special seminars, guest teachers, etc.

 

4.      In accordance with provision of disciplinary rule in The Book of Discipline under the section on Work Area Stewardship, be it resolved that M.L. Harris United Methodist Church duly elect and authorize a Wills and Estate Planning Task Force.  This task force shall:

b.      Emphasize the need for all adults to have a will and estate plan and provide information on the preparation of these for congregants.

c.       Stress the opportunities for congregants and constituents to make provision for giving through means of wills, annuities, trusts, life insurance, memorials and various other types of property.

d.      Arrange for the distribution of information that will be helpful for pre-retirement planning (i.e. living wills, living trust, etc.).

e.       Recommend an educational design to stress the need to appoint a responsible decision-maker and advocate should such capacity be lost.
