Luke 1:68-80

·        Verse 68:  Prophetic Words from the Holy Spirit

o       Prophecy:  To reveal by divine inspiration; confirms what’s been said/told

o       Redeemed:  To be set free; rescued

·        Verse 69:  Horn of Salvation blown

o       Horn:  Represents strength; Strength of our Salvation

o       Salvation:  The realization and demonstration of Life, Truth and Love as supreme over all, carrying with it the destruction of the illusions of sin, sickness and death.

·        Verse 70:  What was said through the prophets long ago

o       Jeremiah 23:5-6

·        Verse 71:  “Salvation from enemy”

o       Corresponds to Jeremiah 23:6, “Judah will be saved and Israel will live in safety”

·        Verses 72 & 73:  Oath swore to Abraham

o       Genesis 17:3-9, 19 – Covenant God made with Abraham

·        Verse 74:  Rescued from the hand of our enemy

o       “Rescue us from the hand of our enemies and to enable us to serve him without fee…” – corresponds to Jeremiah 23:6

·        Verse 75:  Holiness and Righteousness

o       Holiness:  Sanctified…set apart to do the will of God; state of being (way of living); rather than a holy thought…live a holy life

o       Righteousness:  Right standings with God

·        Verse 76:  “Prophet of the Most High” – John’s purpose

o       Prophet:  is a mouthpiece for God…

o       Luke 1:13-17 tells when angel appeared to Zechariah about John’s birth and purpose

o       Matthew 11:7-10, Jesus references John’s call and his purpose

o       Malachi 3:1 tells us, “See I will send my messenger, who will prepare the way before me.”

·        Verse 77:  Giving knowledge of salvation and repentance

o       Mark 1:4, “And so John came, baptizing in the desert region and preaching a Baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins.”

·        Verses 78 & 79:  Isaiah 9:2

o       Prophets said the people walking in darkness have been seen a great light…Jesus is the way to the truth and the light.
