Traveling southeast, as the crow flies, Zion
United Methodist Church is the next of the four churches. Being the only place of worship not along Highway
35, Zion UMC is located just off of North Carolina Highway 158 on Zion Church Road.
While the exact dating is not available,
historical records indicate that a deed was granted to build a place of worship near Zion's current site in 1822.
Reverend Jacob Hill was likely the first pastor of this congregation. Just six years later more land was
deeded to the church just south of the 1822 location. This 1828 acquisition is the current location of Zion
United Methodist Church. The church has undergone several building changes. The fourth, and current,
building was built off the sweat and resources of many of its members from March until November of 1948.
In 1963, a new educational building was added onto the 1948 structure. * Worship attendance at
Zion averages around 45 persons.
