~~HISTORY:
Prior to 1824, religious services were being held in
houses
and barns in Milton. In 1824, the first church was built on the present
site. It was a Union Church began by
The Baptist and Methodist
Societies.
Eventually, the Union dissolved. In the 1880's, the Methodists held
meetings and worshiped in a grove; in colder weather worship was
conducted in the old Milton school on Milton Rd. They built their own
church in 1882; it burned in 1890 and a new structure was built in 1891.
In 1920, the Methodists purchased the site of the original Union Church
from the Baptists and occupied the building in which we worship today.
The first written record of members is dated 1873.
In 1956 the education building with space for fellowship was built on
to the existing church building. At present, our building committee is
evaluating the needs of our church and the possibility of expanding our
facilities. The Church has provided opportunities for worship,
Christian education and community fellowship and service in two
centuries and is looking forward to an active ministry as we enter our
third century.
We recently found a brass bell in the current church's
basement which we plan to use in a bell tower within the new church
that is now underway.
This is a picture of the church was taken in 1945.
