 Reverend Sherry Foster - Deacon
Professional Information
The Reverend Sherry Foster, Deacon is the Pastoral Assistant at Milford UMC and one of the clergy staff members.
She grew up in Madison Heights and received her BA in French, Secondary Education from Oakland University in 1976
and her MA in Mathematics from Eastern Michigan University in 1984. She has been a French and Math teacher for
Huron Valley School since 1978 and an adjunct Math instructor at Oakland Community College for several years.
Rev. Sherry’s seminary studies were at the Methodist Theological School in Ohio. She was a lay member of MUMC for
eleven years before being commissioned as a deacon in May of 2008. She has three adult children; Stephanie Anderson
(Steve), Stacy Atkeson (Steve) and Sean. She also has four grandchildren; Cameron, Scott, Chloe, and Samuel.
She enjoys sewing, scrap-booking, and travel – especially to France! Her ministry in the community focuses on
teaching & Thursday Club (MUMC outreach at Milford High School, providing snacks and a safe place to hang out after
school), educational travel to France, and the Huron Valley Martin Luther King Day Celebration Committee.
At MUMC, she assists in leading worship & teaching Sunday School, confirmation & new member classes.
Rev. Sherry is the facilitator for strategic planning, chairperson of the Stewardship Team & Worship Committee,
and assists the pastor in various other areas. She is an active member of the Order of Deacons in the Detroit
Annual Conference. Her passion for ministry is connecting the church and the world, and leading others to live out
Christianity in all parts of their lives.
