Outreach

Share Your Soles

Drop off your gently worn shoes at our "Share Your Soles" bin and help young people around the world who have none
. Donations of old shoes are sent to people around the world so that they may live a life without worry of injury or sickness due to walking barefoot. This is a mission sponsored by our youth ministry. Visit shareyoursoles.org for more information.

Flood Buckets Update

You can buy all the ingredients for a flood bucket at Wal-Mart for $50 and the bucket and lid is another $5.50. No one will donate buckets, but we have a few available in the lobby to pickup. Please return your completed bucket ASAP.


Habitat for Humanity - Middletown Project - 213 Jefferson Street

Two hard Saturdays of work have uncovered some surprises, but all-in-all have yielded excellent results. One more day of interior demolition is planned for June 21st, and then framing will begin June 28th. We’re taking July 5th off, resuming work on Saturdays through the summer. Thanks to Ann Keyfauver for lunch last week. For more information, give Ron Adams a call.

Free Vision Screening for Preschool Children

Vision screening for preschool children, sponsored by the Middletown Lions Club, will be held here at MUMC on Monday, July 7th from 9:00 a.m. until noon. There is no charge, but a parent/guardian is required to complete a consent form. Forms are available in the church lobby or contact Phyllis Thompson.

Rescue Mission Picnic

A Rescue Mission Picnic will be held at the Salisbury Farm on Monday, June 30th at 5:00 p.m. Volunteers are needed to help with food and games. Please contact Barry Salisbury.


Community Building

New Church Photo Directory

Please call Leesa Ruderman, Belinda McKee or Peggy Bishop to make an appointment to have your photo taken for the new directory! It’s important to have everyone in our church directory!! Even if you aren’t interested in the pictures, if you have your photo taken, MUMC gets more “credits” from Olan Mills for extras in the directory and extra directories to distribute!

Krispy Kreme Doughnuts are Here!
The Volunteers in Mission Team to Africa are distributing orders on Sunday, June 29th. The cost is $8 dozen, pre-ordered. We will also have doughnuts for sale individually at $1 each. Proceeds benefit the VIM Team Africa mission. Pick up doughnuts between services. For more information contact Dave & Debbie Hall.

Adult Education Classes

Come join the Faith Club - a new adult Sunday School class starting at 9:45 a.m. in the Gathering Room. This class will strive to develop an understanding of the similarities and differences: (1) Among Islam, Christianity and Judaism and (2) in our respective views of faith as Christians. Pick up a book (THE FAITH CLUB - A Muslim, A Christian, A Jew) and sign up for the class in the lobby.

UMMen

The UMMen Small Group study will meet on Sunday, July 6th at 12:30 p.m. in room 206S. The group is studying Philip Yancey's book, "What's So Amazing About Grace". All men of the church are invited to attend this study group. Contact Ron Forrester for more information.

Scavenger Hunt

Join us for a "Mystery Escape". Are you competitive? Do you know Frederick County well? Are you creative? The MUMC Amazing Race Scavenger Hunt is for you. Couples or teams of two will meet at the church on Saturday, July 19th at 9:00 a.m. to begin the Amazing Race. A car, digital camera and $10 entry fee per team are required. You will be given instructions when you begin the race. Each assigned task is awarded points and finishing quickly also gives you more points. The winner will win 75% of the proceeds from entry fees (remainder will go towards the Couples Ministry Budget). Join us for fellowship in the social hall afterwards at noon. Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and First Aid Instruction

The MUMC Health Ministry will sponsor a CPR class on Saturday, July 19th from 9:00 a.m. until noon. This instruction is available for all -- adults, young adults, high school and college-aged youth, parents, grandparents, Sunday School teachers, church volunteers, church leaders, church staff. Red Cross Blood Drive

MUMC will also sponsor a blood drive on Wednesday, July 23rd from 2:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Watch for sign-ups in the Narthex to donate blood or to work at the registration and refreshment tables as a volunteer. For more information, contact your Parish Nurse, Diane Lowe.


Fundraisers for Youth Workcamp

During the week of July 19th through 21st MUMC youth and several adults from our congregation will travel to Minnesota to participate in Group Workcamp. During the week our youth will help make home repairs for families in need. Two fundraisers are currently underway to help support the youth:

Workcamper for Hire:

Youth attending workcamp can be “hired” to do jobs in/around your home, i.e. lawn care, weeding, painting, cleaning, babysitting etc. The youth do the work and you make a donation to their workcamp account. Look for the lime green flyers in the church lobby or contact the church office.

Flocking:

Flock your friend or neighbor with harmless pink flamingos! You pay to have someone else’s yard decorated with a flock of pink flamingoes ... more information is in the church lobby or contact Luke & Caroline Salisbury.

9:45 A.M. Children’s Activity Time
This Summer, after the opening part of our worship services, children ages 4 through 5th grade are invited to accompany the teacher to a special activity time in Room 203. The story and activities presented coordinate with the sermon topic. Parents should get their children after the service.
PARENTS PLEASE FILL OUT THE CONTACT INFORMATION CARD found in the pew pockets or on the usher’s table in the back of the sanctuary.  SEND A CARD EACH WEEK YOUR CHILD ATTENDS.

Looking Ahead to the Fall
We are looking for lots of teachers to lead our children in their faith. Can You help? You can teach as little as once a month and all curriculum and supplies are provided. Look for sign up sheets in the lobby.

S’Ages One - NOTE DATE CHANGE - Monday, July 21st at noon. Birthday Club for Seniors and retirees. Covered Dish, bring your favorite food to share, meat and drinks will be furnished - our devoted church ladies are taking a break - all are welcome.


Van-Goers - Tuesday July 29th at 11:30 a.m. - Picnic at Whittier, followed by ice cream at Meadows. Van will leave church at 11:30 a.m.

Youth Retreat

A youth Retreat is planned for Friday and Saturday, July 11th - 12th. Meet at the church on Friday at noon and return on Saturday at 3 p.m. The retreat is being held at Washington Monument State Park. The cost is $15 and the theme is “Survivor”. Look for the sign up sheet in the church lobby.



NEW SMALL GROUP FOR TEENS ENTERING 8th GRADE THROUGH HIGH SCHOOL
AND THEIR PARENTS!!
During the summer, join our small group on Wednesday evenings from 7:00 p.m. to 8:15 p.m.. Study is based on the book “Messy Spirituality”. Teens will meet and do their thing while parents will hang out and talk about the book in their own small group. It’s not necessary to be at every meeting.
