Meals for Millions
The Meals for Millions
mission project of United Methodist Men began in 1989 as a fund raising
mechanism for the Society of St. Andrew’s Potato Project. Through this
effort United Methodist Men fed literally millions of people over the
years. In 1997, the focus of Meals for Millions was changed to
provide funding for the Hunger Relief Advocate (HRA) Initiative. Meals for
Millions is Advance Special mission project of the United Methodist Church
# 982225-8.
Meals for Millions
funding is provided by both UMMen fellowships and by individuals.

CHALLENGE FELLOWSHIPS |
Every United Methodist Men group that
donates $200 or more for Meals for Millions in a calendar year is
recognized as a Challenge Fellowship. Through their donation each
Challenge Fellowship provides enough produce to meet the needs of two
families of four for an entire year.
Some ideas on such fundraising
activities can be found here.
The General Commission on United
Methodist Men has challenged every United Methodist Men group to become
a Challenge Fellowship. Every UMMen Challenge Fellowship receives a
certificate recognizing their commitment to feeding the hungry.

HRA SPONSOR FELLOWSHIPS
A new level of group recognition was
established in 2004 called HRA Sponsor Fellowship. Every UMMen
fellowship that donates $500 shows a special dedication to feeding the
hungry and supporting the HRA Initiative and receive special
recognition. Through their donation, every HRA Sponsor Fellowship
provides enough produce to meet the needs of 20 hungry Americans for a
year.

CHALLENGE DISCIPLES
A Challenge Disciple is a United
Methodist Man or other individual who commits to feeding the poor
through a financial contribution of $25 twice each year to Meals for
Millions in response to a call letter. The GCUMM has challenged all
United Methodist Men to become Challenge Disciples.
The way the program works is simple.
Twice a year, in the spring and fall, Challenge Disciples receive a
“call” letter from the Society of St. Andrew. The Challenge Disciple
responds with a $25.00 donation to the Society of St. Andrew for each
call letter. That means the annual total for being a Challenge Disciple
is just $50.00. Through this annual contribution, a Challenge Disciple
provides enough fresh produce to feed two people all year long.
 |
By the way, if you become a Challenge
Disciple, the $50.00 you pledge annually
turns out to be less than 15˘ a day — or
about a nickel every time you eat a meal. If you can afford to
giva a nickel every time you eat so that others may get enough to eat,
become a Challenge Disciple.
To become a Challenge Disciple, you need
to complete a response
form and submit it to the Society of St. Andrew. You can do this
electronically at this page.

HRA SPONSORS
Established in 2004, a HRA Sponsor is
similar to a Challenge Disciple but donates $50 or more twice each year.
They are recognized by a special certificate. Through this annual
contribution, a HRA Sponsor provides enough fresh produce to feed a
family of four for a whole year.
