HOW APPORTIONMENTS CONTRIBUTE TO THE LIFE OF THE METROPOLITAN DISTRICT
The churches of the Metropolitan District all benefit in some way from the apportionments they contribute. One example of this is the fact that each church is entitled to receive up to 7 copies of the Interpreter magazine without charge. This magazine is a publication of United Methodist Communications and offers the leadership of each congregation the most helpful information available in United Methodist ministries and resources. In addition to the laity each clergy person receives a complimentary copy of the magazine. The enrollment form is sent to each pastor who is asked to update it as soon after the church conference as possible.
Many pastors in the district have also benefited from the Ministerial Education Fund which provides modest support to help with seminary costs.
Another way in which apportionments have contributed to the life of the district is through Parish Development grants for mission in ministry. This year (2007) eleven congregations and one mission group are receiving grants for a variety of outreach efforts which include After-School Programs, Feeding Programs, Tutorial Activity, and Out-Reach to College students.
Application forms for Parish Development grants are sent to pastors in the Spring of each year. The District Parish Development Committee reviews the applications that are received and makes a recommendation to the Conference Parish Development Committee, which has the final authority in awarding these grants. |
