January 28, 2004 Dear Members and Friends of Met-Duane: Grace and Peace to you in the name of Jesus Christ our Savior and Redeemer!
Our churchs Food Program continues! We prepare about 40 to 50 meals on Saturdays, and about 20 people come to our doors to receive a nicely prepared meal. The rest of them are distributed at Penn Station, Union Square and on our neighborhood street.
One BIG problem: our donated food source is no longer giving us food. Amys Bread (neighboring store) continues to give us $30 worth of bread weekly. Our Saturday volunteers will be asking our neighborhood stores and restaurant for donations of food for the program. But we also need your help: Please donate your time and money for the Food Program. (This should, of course, be beyond your regular church givings. Our church needs your regular givings to support other ministries.) When you give and/or send your checks, please indicate that your check be used for the Food Program. When you give your time, please know that even once a month would make a difference and be appreciated, and that participation isnt limited to Saturday mornings there are responsibilities involving inventory, ordering, soliciting donations, organizing the kitchen and storage areas and so on.
The following items are needed for our kitchen. We ask your donation of: new or used: medium/large Tupperware/ Rubbermaid freezing/storage containers; large bowls (metal or plastic like the kind we use for the punch for coffee hour), large draining rack for washed pots/pans, can opener, heat resistant spatulas, large wooden spoon(s), knives (small/short and long), cutting boards, butter spreader, pot holders, large frying pan, kitchen aid mixer and food processor.
Thank you for your support.
Peace and Hope,
Lynn Berry, Melanie Heineman, Taka Ishii |
