A Special Gift from Japan

Church members and students in the kindergarten and elementary school of the Hyogo Matsumotodori United Church of Christ in Kobe, Japan, folded 1000 paper cranes and sent them to Met-Duane. Representatives of Met-Duane delivered the cranes to a nearby fire house. Origami cranes have a special significance in Japan. Our Pastor's book, One Thousand Paper Cranes, explains this special significance.

(From left to right) Visitors Steven Leonard and Scott Hogan of the Little Rock, Arkansas, Second Presbyterian Church, and Jamie Rainey from The Tallassee, Florida, Killearn UMC, are joined by Ardele Murphy, Pastor Ishii, and Daisy Dunbar of Met-Duane
Rev. Kazu Takehana (left) and Pastor Ishii (kneeling) delivered the 1000 folded paper cranes to Ladder Company Five, which lost 11 firefighters when the WTC collapsed. This Company is the one that is nearest Met-Duane UMC.
