From the pastor...

Dear Friends:

I’m glad that you have visited us at our Messiah UMC website. As you scroll through the website, you will see that we are an exciting congregation that keeps growing in our numbers and in our love for the Lord.

In coming to Messiah as the new senior pastor, I began asking people about Messiah Church. Some of the people were from the church, others were from the community. Some attended Messiah regularly, some another church, and some no church at all.

Here are some of the remarks that I heard:

"Messiah is a good church; great music and lots of talent … good people."

"They make you feel like you belong."

And I thought to myself, Wow, this is a great church.

But then I heard a comment that sold me on my excitement of being pastor of Messiah Church. This was the comment:

"When I came to Messiah Church, I didn’t know if I wanted to even go to church anymore. I had seen a lot of mean people in churches, and I wasn’t sure that I even wanted to bother.

"But the people at Messiah Church showed me Jesus. They aren’t worried about what they wear, or traditions, they honestly want to seek to be like Jesus. If a decision comes up, they pray. If they need a leader, they pray. They just want to love God and to do His will. I belong here!"

So, if you are looking for a church home, you will find Messiah to be a church full of ordinary people that become extraordinary because they are committed to put Jesus first in their lives.

I, as well as my colleagues, the staff and leadership team, and the entire congregation, invite you to join us on an extraordinary journey as we impact the Shippensburg community with the love of Jesus Christ.
