Shorter hours of daylight are just ahead. We turn our clocks
back one hour to standard time on Sunday, October 31. (Be sure to do this
before going to bed on the 30th so you’re not really early for church!)
Under the direction of Pam Predisik, rehearsals for the Christmas Musical begin on Sunday, October 10, from 12:30-2 pm. Several people have already signed up to either act in the play, or work behind the scenes making costumes or props, helping with practices, and other things that will help the play come together. It’s still not to late to join in—Pam has previously taken a play that had just a few parts, and rewrote it with many, many parts, to include anyone who wanted to participate. Don’t be shy—come join the fun and help our church put on a great Christmas program!
A sign up sheet has been started to assemble a choir for the Christmas
Eve program. We need your voice, be it loud, soft, high, or low.
We can all come together to make beautiful and joyful noises so we can
spread the good news about our Savior’s birth to our congregation and community.
Call the church for details if you’d like to join us.
We wish all these terrific people God’s blessings and joyful celebrations on their birthdays and anniversaries for the month of October. Did we miss you? Please call the church and let us know your special date.

MAF FOR THE MONTH
October’s Mead Adult Fellowship is wood splitting in the morning, potluck & games in the evening at the church on October 23. Potluck dishes can be prepared on Friday and brought to church and put in the refrigerator on Saturday morning. We’ll split wood for as many orders as we have, then have the potluck and play games when we’re finished. Look for the specific starting times in the church bulletins, or call the church for more info. We also invite Greenbluff UMC adults to attend any of our MAF functions. Mead UMC or the designated hosts will have information for the events.
.

several activities this month. Jr. Hi will meet for regular youth
group on Oct. 10 & 24, from 2-4 pm; Sr. Hi will meet on Oct. 3 &
17, from 2-4 pm. In addition, Jr. Hi will meet for movies on Oct.

either youth group, please call the church office.
The Mead UMC Spotlight person of the month is
Connie Newman. Connie, her husband, Erik and their children Erika
and Katrina have been coming to our church for about 2 years. They
first visited our church through our VBS program.
Connie became involved in children’s ministry almost from
the beginning. Connie is in her second year as Christian Education
Director and has continued the outstanding tradition of leadership in children’s
ministry at Mead.
Under Connie's leadership, our program has grown again with
about a 15-20% increase in attendance the past year. Connie has done
much to encourage teachers and to keep their energy levels up. She
helped get the "Secret Pals" program off the ground. "Secret Pals"
is a program of commitment to prayer and encouragement for our Sunday School
teachers.
Connie has also been very active in Church Council.
Her passion for detail has made that body a more effective group.
Connie is also skilled in capital funds campaigns and will
help with the Building Campaign that we will begin soon.
Connie has insisted that we set goals as a church and has
helped us follow through on those goals. Along with other people
on Church Council, Connie helped with our Strategic Plan which is nearing
completion. Give Connie a big thank you when you see her.
Women of Faith is a Bible study and fellowship group for all women
of Mead UMC. We meet weekly on Wednesday afternoons from 1:30 to
3:00 at the home of Barb Ford, just a short distance from the church.
We are up and running with our new Bible study, "Disciple," which is being
led by Pastor Brenda Tudor from Centenary UMC. This study covers
the very basics of learning how to read and study Scripture, beginning
with Genesis, and continuing on through the New Testament. We are
always open to new members and invite all women of Mead UMC to join us.
Contact Barb Ford at 46-2275 if you are interested in visiting our group.
Mead UMC has purchased a temporary building to accommodate our growing
Sunday School. Several members of our congregation helped bring in
and set up the building. On Saturday and Sunday, Aug.28 & 29, painting
was done. We want to express a great big thank-you to
Sherwin-Williams Paints for donating the paint. Various other things need
to be done to the building in or-der for it to be ready for the first day
of Sunday School, on September 19. A sign-up sheet was passed
around the congregation on Sunday, August 29, and several people
signed up to do more paint-ing, cleaning, organizing, in-stall the skirting,
selling office furniture that came with the building, and other tasks.
If you are able to help in any of these areas, please call the church for
details. We are really excited to have this building to provide a
nice place for the youth to study. Thanks to all who
have enthusiastically shown their support and are donating their time!
Requests for October:
Formal craft of the month classes held at the
church will be discontinued as of October, due to lack of attendance.
A few of us will still meet on an occasional basis in one of our homes
to make crafts. We may also meet to make some simple crafts for the
church to sell at the annual yard sale in the spring. If you are
interested, call Nancy Russell, at 238-9438.
