Adult Ministry

There is a wide range of programs available for adults at Mays Chapel.  In addition to the programs highlighted below,  our seniors gather the second Wednesday of every month at the church for lunch, discussion, and fellowship at Chat-N-Chew.  And our women meet for dinner and a movie one night a month on Fridays for Women's Night Out.

Small Groups

The concept of small groups in the Christian church is not a new one. Indeed we see from scripture (Acts 2:42-47) that the early church sustained itself and spread the Word through the activity of small groups. At Mays Chapel United Methodist Church we are returning to the idea of the early church community, a community that met the needs of the individual in a Christ-centric manner, by fostering the growth of small groups. Groups meet at different times and different days of the week to allow for participants’ schedules. Typically comprised of four to ten members, the groups set the length and frequency of meetings while maintaining a basic small group structure. These small groups provide a setting that fosters discipleship growth and strengthens fellowship bonds. A core of small group leaders has been trained and the groups themselves provide the opportunity for leadership development.

Currently our small groups are studying the book of Philippians.  A listing of current meeting times of small groups can be found under member resources, or you can call the office for times and locations.  All are welcome!

Adult Sunday School

Sunday school is not just for kids!  Pastor Doug leads a class for adults at 9:45 am on Sunday mornings in the Worship Center Friendship Room.

Current topic: The Life of David

Adult Discussion Group

This group meets Sundays at 9:35 am in the Stone Chapel, informally lead by Pastor Sharon Mills.  The current class is discussing The Book of Revelation using as resources Breaking the Code by Bruce Metzger and Conversations with Scripture: Revelation by Frederick Schmidt. All are welcome to join or one or more of the discussions.

We bring the news headlines into our discussion and refer to scripture for relevance.  We also draw upon personal experiences.  We talk.  We offer our opinions.  We ask questions.  We hear what others think and feel.  Usually there are six or seven of us gathered around the table.  We warmly welcome anyone who would like to join us one or more mornings to see and hear what goes on.

Men's Breakfast

This group meets at 7 AM on the first Tuesday of each month, at the  Nautilus Diner on York Road in Timonium.  This year Pastor Doug is leading the men in a study called "Proverbs for Guys."  We'll be discussing topics such as work, finances, priorities, sex, friendship, attitude, and discipline.  All men are invited to join with us as we share fellowship, study God's Word, and pray.  The food is good too!
