We are a
Stephen Ministries Congregation:
In Stephen Ministry congregations, lay caregivers
(called Stephen Ministers) provide one-to-one
Christian care to the bereaved, hospitalized,
terminally ill, separated, divorced, unemployed,
relocated, and others facing a crisis or life
challenge. Stephen Ministry helps pastors and
congregations provide quality caring ministry for
as long as people need it.
From their web site,
"The mission of Stephen Ministries is to
proclaim through word and deed the Gospel of
Jesus Christ by nurturing, edifying, educating,
and equipping the whole people of God who are
called, gifted, and sent to be more effective
servants who care for the needs of the whole
person."
They not only learned how to be
care givers but they also went on a personal "spiritual growth"
journey.
If you are still considering this worthwhile ministry, please
see Rev. Butler to discuss the program and/or
to get an application.
We have spoken to many people about this ministry and the main
reason they hesitate to make a commitment is the 50 hours of
initial training and then continuing education. Yes,
it's a little intimidating, but it's only 2 1/2 hours a week.
It's a learning experience, new friends are made, and we do
learn a lot from not only the modules, but from our life
experiences.
Our current Stephen Ministers enjoy what they do and are
always available to support and learn from each other.
We also enjoy continuing education and the guest speakers we
have heard on various topics.
Think about it. Is there a little voice saying "This is
something you would be good at? Do it!"
