    A Message From The Pastor

    Scripture Reading:Luke 23:33-37

Luke 23:33-37, And when they had come to the place called Calvary, there they crucified Him, and the criminals, one on the right hand and the other on the left. Then Jesus said, "Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they do."And they divided His garments and cast lots. And the people stood looking on. But even the rulers with them sneered, saying, "He saved others; let Him save Himself if He is the Christ, the chosen of God." The soldiers also mocked Him, coming and offering Him sour wine, and saying, "If You are the King of the Jews, save Yourself."

While He was on the cross Jesus asked that the Father would forgive those who placed Him there. The cross is a place of execution and suffering. It is not a place that one would ask that God would forgive others. It is more a place where one would ask that God would curse and condemn others. But that is not what Jesus did.

It was on the cross that Jesus asked that you could be forgiven. It was His desire that these sins not be held against you. You may be thinking that you did not put Him on the cross. That was the work of the Jews and Romans. The Bible tells us that He took your sins to the cross and crucified them there. He went to the cross because of your sins. You and I did put Him on that cross.

Had He not went to the cross, you could not be forgiven.

How important is forgiveness? The Bible tells us that there is no sin in Heaven. If you have sin in your life you cannot get to Heaven. The only remedy for your sin is the blood of Jesus that was shed at the cross. Without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness of sins. It took the blood of a perfect sacrifice and the only perfect sacrifice was Jesus Christ. All others had sin in their lives.

If Christ had not died on the cross, you would still be in your sins and your only destination would be hell.

Christ, however, died for your sins. You can be forgiven. To be forgiven, you must receive Jesus Christ into your heart as your Lord and Savior. You must believe in Him and accept what He did as payment for your sins. You must allow His will to become your will and you surrender your all to Him. This means you will walk in obedience to Him.

Have you made that choice? Have you made that commitment? Are you living out that commitment? If not, why not make things right with Him today?

ARE YOU A BORN AGAIN CHRISTIAN?

Jesus told Nicodemus in John 3 that unless he was born again he would not see the Kingdom of God. John 3:1-8says, "There was a man of the Pharisees named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews. This man came to Jesus by night and said to Him, "Rabbi, we know that You are a teacher come from God; for no one can do these signs that You do unless God is with him." Jesus answered and said to him, "Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God." Nicodemus said to Him, "How can a man be born when he is old? Can he enter a second time into his mother's womb and be born?" Jesus answered, "Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God. That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. Do not marvel that I said to you, 'You must be born again.' "The wind blows where it wishes, and you hear the sound of it, but cannot tell where it comes from and where it goes. So is everyone who is born of the Spirit."

The Bible teaches that everyone has sinned and is in need of the Savior. Romans 3:23 says,""For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God."

God's Word also tells us there is only one way to Heaven. John 14:6 says, "Jesus said to him, "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me." The best or our labors will not get us to Heaven. Being as good as we possible can will not get us to Heaven. Only through Christ can you make it to Heaven. There is no other way!

God loves you so much He wants you in Heaven with Him. John 3:16 says "For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life."

    What must we do?

    1. Admit we are a sinner and separated from God because of sin

    2. Repent of our sins, which means we turn away from them both by physically not doing them and through training our minds to think on and desire the things of God

    3. Receive Jesus Christ into our hearts by faith as our LORD, Savior, and Master. Allow Him to transform and change our lives.

    4. Get involved in a church that uplifts Jesus Christ and His gospel. Find a church that believes in the Bible as the Word of God and that lives by those standards.

    5. Grow in Christ and don't be discouraged when you fall. Get back up and try again. May God bless you in your new life in Christ.

If you receive Jesus Christ as LORD and Savior of your life through this ministry, I would like to hear from you. Email me at matewanumc@yahoo.com.

WHAT TO LOOK FOR IN FINDING A CHURCH TO ATTEND?

Here are a few things to consider when looking for a church to attend:

The pastor and church leaders must be committed to Jesus Christ and to a life of Bible study and prayer
Prayer must be vitally important for the church
Worship and praise to God is of great importance because the Bible says God inhabits the praises of His people
There can be no room for compromise in proclaiming and living the Word of God
Salvation, discipleship, and evangelism must be a major emphasis
The church must also have a vision for world outreach and ways of putting those plans into action
There must be a freedom to worship, study the Word, and allow the Holy Spirit to move among the congregation

Here Are Some of Our Basic Beliefs

  • God the Father
We believe in God the Father almighty Who is the Creator of Heaven and earth. He is ultimate and supreme ruler of all.
  • The Lord Jesus Christ
We believe in the deity of Jesus Christ as the only begotten Son of God. We believe in His substitutionary death for all people, His resurrection, and His eventual return to judge the world. We believe He is soon returning.
  • Salvation
We believe all men are born with a sinful nature and that the work of the Cross was to redeem man from the power of sin. We believe that this salvation is available to all who will receive it. Only through Jesus Christ can a person be saved.
  • The Holy Spirit
We believe in the existence of the Holy Spirit as the third person of the Trinity and in His interaction with man. We believe in the baptism of the Holy Spirit as manifested by the fruit and the gifts of the Spirit. He empowers us to be able to live the Christian life.
  • The Word of God
We believe in the scripture as the inspired Word of God and that it is the complete revelation of God's will for mankind. We believe in the absolute authority of the scripture to govern the affairs of all people.
  • Stewardship
We believe that every man is the steward of his life and resources which ultimately belong to God. We believe that tithing is a measure of obedience to the scriptural principles of stewardship and is required by God.
  • The Church
We believe in the Church as the Body of Christ consisting of all those who have accepted the work of the atonement. We believe in the need for a local assembly of believers for the purpose of evangelism and edification. We believe every believer should be a part of a Church body.
  • Prayer and Praise
We believe in the worship of the Lord through singing, clapping, and the lifting of hands, and sharing in the Word of God. We believe in the authority of the believer to ask freely of the Lord for his or her needs.
  • Evangelism
We believe that evangelism is required of every follower of Jesus Christ. The Lord commands us to go and make disciples of all the earth. We believe that each person is first responsible to evangelism in their own family as the Holy Spirit leads them and gives them the ability. They are also to reach out to neighbors, community, state, region, and the entire world.
  • Baptism
We believe in the ordinance baptism in obedience to the Word of God. All those who have accepted Jesus Christ as their personal Savior should be baptized in water as a public profession of their faith in Christ.
  • The Priesthood of the Believer
We believe that every believer has a special relationship with the Lord. As His children, every Christian has immediate access to the throne of Grace and the ability to make known the power of the Lord Jesus Christ in ministry. We believe in the ministry of the Holy Spirit to the Church body through the anointing of oil by the Church leaders.
  • Our Commitment to Israel
We believe in the promises of the Word of God regarding the Jewish people and the nation of Israel. We believe that we must support Isreal because of God's eternal covenant with them. We believe it is our calling to help the Jewish people return to their homeland.
