Vacation Bible School Staff
Requirements and Responsibilities
[assumes that students will move from one center to another]
Prime responsibility of all staff is the creation and completion of a program which will expand the children's understanding and love of God within a loving and open atmosphere.
General Coordinator:
- Responsible for the overall functioning of Bible School.
- Lines up available staff with open positions.
- Makes sure that staff understand and meet their
responsibilities.
- Plans schedule and use of space with assistance of staff.
- Registration of students, including greeting students as
they arrive and making sure that all reach the correct class.
- Ordering basic materials (teacher manuals, workbooks)
- Responsible for organizing daily closing program.
Assistant Coordinator:
- Responsible for providing support for General Coordinator, accepting responsibility for some tasks assigned to General Coordinator.
- Position to be considered a learning experience so that individual would be able to move into General Coordinator
position in future years.
Age Group Teachers:
- Responsible for organizing activities for time spent in class room.
- This may include lesson, story time, workbook, attendance, memory verse learning.
- Providing supplies coordinator with required items by agreed deadline.
- Obtaining necessary supplies (with General Coordinator's approval) if such supplies become necessary after deadline
has passed.
- Age groups needed:
- Nursery (age 3)
- Pre-Schoolers (age 4-5) (including those entering Kindergarten in fall)
- Kindergarten (refers to grade completed)
- Grade 1 to 2
- Grade 3 to 4
- Grade 5 to 6
Crafts Coordinator
- Plans crafts appropriate to each age group which can be completed in assigned time segments.
- Creates list of necessary supplies to be given to supplies coordinator by agreed deadline.
- Responsible for instructing and guiding children in the planned project.
++Supplies Coordinator:
- Responsible for obtaining materials lists from teachers & crafts coordinator by agreed deadline.
- Obtains necessary materials and distributes them to staff needing them. (This may include requesting donations
from congregation and/or purchase of needed items.)
Music Coordinator:
- Learns VBS songs in order to teach them to children.
- Leads children in the singing of Sunday School songs & in new songs appropriate to their age level.
- Works with pianist to assure that the music is an enriching part of the program.
- Development & supervision of final closing celebration
Pianist (and/or Guitar player):
- Works with Music Coordinator to develop music program.
- Provides accompaniment during Music time and during daily opening and/or closing.
++Refreshments Coordinator:
- Responsible for scheduling volunteers to prepare daily snacks.
- Responsible for obtaining snacks for use (nutritious juice and snacks preferred to sugary sweets.)
++Art Coordinator:
- Develops necessary supporting artwork.
- This may include: registration brochure; publicity poster; room decorations; skit scenery
++Setup & Take-down staff:
- Individuals who would be available before and after the week of Bible School to assist in decorating for the week
and then to help return the building to its standard condition.
++Daily Clean-up Staff
- Individuals spend time in the church anytime between the close of one daily session & the beginning of the next.
Tasks may include vacuuming, emptying wastebaskets, etc. Notes left by staff in agreed location can provide
communication of special needs.
Recreation coordinator:
- Plans and leads the children in games and recreation activities appropriate to their age level.
- Obtains any necessary equipment required for the activities.
Teacher aides:
- Close personal contact caring for one group of children
- Keep children on schedule
- Assistants to teachers and coordinators.
Baby sitter:
- Available to care for teachers' young children during the Bible School hours.
